Served on-tap in a Cavalry Brewing Co. pint glass at G.W. Tavern in Washington Depot, Conn.
A: poured a solid, golden yellow color with a frothy, two-finger thick had of soft, sterling white foam which held quite nicely and left great sheets of lace in the glass. Clarity was excellent and the brew looked ample and inviting.
S: Effervescent, fruity malt aroma with good amounts of spices and herbal esters. Bits of pear, apple and banana come through with the nutmeg, saffron and white pepper in the nose.
T: Dry, sweet and fruity malt profile up front, lending yellow apple, pear and buttery biscuit to the palate, whilst also throwing in a peppery, minted and alcoholic twang into the mix. Smooth and peppery body leaves a slick coat of alcohol and estery, bitter hops in the finish.
M: Full-bodied, creamy, quite smooth and effervescent enough to be a lively sipper.
D: A dangerous brew at nearly 9% ABV, but quite balanced and tasty with a nice, aesthetic showing indeed. Perhaps not the most traditional Belgian strong pale you could imagine, but one with distinct American flair and bitterness. A nice brew and one I'd definitely have again.
