From a 650 ml brown bottle. Pours out a brilliant clear light copper hue, tall chunky off-white head with great retention. Intense spongy wall of lacing left in its wake.
The aroma is almost all intense fresh rip white grapefruit from the hops, mild hints of earthy funk from the yeast lingers in the background.
The yeast actually manages to offer a semblance of balance against the anticipated juggernaut of hops that was hinted at from the aroma. A fairly straight forward flavour profile of grapefruit from the hops blended with earthy phenols provided from the Westmalle yeast. Nothing too complex going on, but it totally works.
Medium-full mouthfeel, slippery and smooth texture, subtle carbonation.
A well-done experiment on the part of Lagunitas, rather than with attaining balance from the malt they mannaged to pull it off with the yeast. Can't call it a new go-to beer, but I look forward to enjoying a few more bottles of this from time to time while it's available.
