Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a New Belgium Globe glass.
Appearance: Pours a bright copper golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Huge five finger white head that slowly fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a lot of lacing sticking on the glass.
Smell: A big aroma of citrus hops and Belgian yeast esters. Ripe citrus hops with hints of oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, lemon, and tangerine. Also some esters of pear, apple, and bubblegum. Belgian yeast along with some clove spice and pepper. Hints of bready pale malts in the background with some biscuit and cracker. A little candied sugar adds some sweetness. A very nice aroma.
Taste: Like the smell gives off, a big taste of citrus and Belgian yeast. Starts out fairly bitter with lots of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, orange, pineapple, tangerine, and lemon. Some earthy hops and grass. Big Belgian yeast taste blends with the hops. Notes of bubblegum, apple, pear, and some pepper and clove spices. A little Belgian candied sugar. Some malts in the back end with notes of biscuit and crackers. A very good taste.
Mouthfeel: Body is on the heavier side of medium. Carbonation is slightly above medium. Juicy and spicy feel. Bitter but still fairly smooth. Very drying finish. Alcohol is hidden well.
Overall: A really great version of a Belgian IPA. Good citrus hop flavor that is balanced well by the Belgian yeast. Complex and tasty.
