On tap in a pint glass at Barley's Smokehouse on 9/27/10
Very clear amber color with golden highlights around the bottom. Poured a rather thin head to begin with, but a consistent, thin film seems poised to remain. Solid wall of lace that dries & cracks over time.
A subtle wheat aroma is situated amid lively, bright citric hops. Grapefruit, lemon zest, tangerine & pineapple. I'm thinking Amarillo. There's a little yeast mustiness in the back, though it doesn't seem overly pronounced. Nice aroma, overall.
The nose belies the taste, as the malts is ramped up, the hops are toned down somewhat. A fairly subtle bitterness hits the tongue first, though it isn't as potently citric as the nose. Still tastes pretty dang good. Toasted malts with a touch of earthiness throughout. Yeasty undertones with some spiciness throughout.
Just a touch lighter than medium bodied. Carbonation is appropriate for the beer. There's a low-slung grittiness; sort of sticky as well. Some appreciable alcohol heat. Toasty malts & deep, subtle, citric notes linger.
Blasted shaker pint; a tulip would do wonders for this one. Regardless, this is a tasty beer & I'll not hold the glassware against it. Definitely worth a try. I'm glad to have stumbled across it on tap.
