Consumed November 3rd, 2010 from a nucleated Samuel Adams pint glass.
Beer pours a very clear yellow, a shade or two darker than a pilsener. Off white to pale yellow head one finger tall (lacking compared to style norms, apparently), composed of uniform, medium sized bubbles. Provided good sheeting on the sides of the glass.
Aromas of pine, grapefruit and pineapple.
A very hoppy tasting beer, the nose notes dominate the palate as well. Pineapple, pine resin, white pepper and cinnamon up front with significant bitterness on the finish. Low sweetness. Try as I might, I could only just barely detect a malt note (caramel? crystal?). Unbalanced.
A touch too dry to be perfect, but still lively enough on the tongue to ease the beer through without issue. Alcohol well hidden.
A bit one-note: you've gotta love hops to love this one. Duvel is still the gold standard of this style.
