Little Sumpin's wild sister pours a glowing amber/orange hue. The head is modest, but leaves a couple messy patches of eggshell white topping. Lagunitas printed 9.4% ABV on the bottle, so a lack of lacing isn't too much of a shocker.
The Belgian yeast really does add that extra little sumpin'! The complexity - even when it is still chilled - is gargantuan. Peaches, passion fruit, sage, and pine are at the front of the aroma, satisfying this hop head. Bold yeast flavor and loads of sweet and spicy cues seem to make everything right in the world. I can't get my face outta this snifter! Bubblegum, brown sugar, and the gooey caramel backbone emerge as it incubates at room temperature. No alcohol evident.... at all. Best aroma of anything I can remember.
Substantial bitterness holds strong through the flavor. It definitely boasts a big resinous pine character with a slightly tart dash of lemon. The alcohol introduces itself and warms up the body as I slip into hop bliss. The dry grassy finish doesn't slow me down either.
This one has a tad below medium mouthfeel, making it uber easy to drink... dangerously easy. I anticipated a bit mmore body, but I'm content with what it is. It's beautifully smooth and the carbonation is crisp. The dry finish keeps it flowing faster than I can detect more flavors in that confounding aroma!
What a solid beer, it's definitely got that sumpin' sumpin'!
1. Take a solid west coast style IPA
2. Throw in the Belgian kitchen sink of fruit and yeast flavors 3. Get it right
4. Bravo Lagunitas
