Poured from a bottle into a Green's tulip. The pour is pale orange-gold. Cloudy with a nice 2 fingers of tight head. Average retention and excellent lacing. A fair amount of sweet fruit on the nose. Over-ripe peaches, oranges, and a little pine. I get a little marmalade as well.
Medium body and slick, creamy feel. Quite sweet with bready, malty notes, but with moderate hop balance. Toast and marmalade give way to apricots and lots of pineapple at mid-palate. Nice feel moves things along. Pineapples meet spicy phenols and a bit of alcohol heat at the finish. The sweetness maintains and the dryness is refreshing. Nice!
I usually frown on sweet IPAs, as the blend of sweetness and intense bitterness always seems medicinal to me. This one has nice balance and the sweetness is almost overwhelmingly pineapple-like, which strikes me as very pleasant. Like a Belgian tripel with a shot of pineapple juice in it. Quite enjoyable.
