[Suggested Glassware: Tulip Glass]

The pour was a crystal clear reddish orange with an average (1-2 finger) white creamy head that was fully lasting, reducing slightly to a medium cap with excellent sheets of lacing which coated the entire glass.

The aroma was very bold with a grain malt, floral hops and a sweet Belgian wild yeast with notes of citrus (orange), bubblegum, caramel and a light fruity ester (banana and pineapple).

The taste was lightly sweet and fruity with a malty caramel sweetness being rather pronounced at first, and then became mildly hoppy with a slight citrus presence and a lightly peppery alcohol finish. The flavor lingered for a good while after the swallow, with a lightly spicy hop taste finally giving way to a slight alcohol warming.

Mouthfeel was a few steps above light in body with a creamy yet oily texture and a carbonation that was about average.

Overall I was rather impressed by this brew, the wild yeast really brings out some wonderful flavors normally not found in an IPA. Props to the brewer on this one...

22 oz. bottle with no apparent bottled on date present. Confident that I managed to grab a fresh bottle, but it's a shame Lagunitas doesn't date their bottles. It's been a long time coming since I've had this beer or it's counterpart Lagunitas A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale. Looking forward to this one again!

Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A - Pours just over a finger of off-white froth, on top of a murky dark orange colored body. Some bubbles rushing topside. Some nice thin sheets of lacing on the way down.

S - Smell is of fresh juicy pineapple, blood orange, grapefruit, papaya, biscuit malts, caramelized sweetness, brown sugar, and some faint alcohol heat. Smells very nice. Some nutty smells begin to creep out from the malts as it warms.

T - The hops taste more spicy than they do bitter, with some heat from the alcohol phenols, & sweet candied malts. Mild clove & other spices here and there, but not much. Fruity pineapples, grapefruits, & oranges again.

M - Feel is smooth and creamy, with some sticky candied sugars leftover on the palate. Some more alcohol warmth in the finish.

Overall, not very wild for a "wild ale". Couldn't really taste any of the distinctive yeast characteristics, unless that was from the fruity pineapple, & no distinct funk of any kind. It mostly just reminds me of a nice DIPA, more than it does a Belgian IPA. Either way, a worthy big brother to Lagunitas A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale. And at $4.99 a bomber, you can't beat Lagunitas' prices.
