Appears solid gold with a small layer of white foam.

It smells funky and barnyard like. There is a very mellow tartness to the smell. I also get a bit of a subdued fruity smell.

It tastes much like the smell. There is a strong funky Brett flavor with oak like and fruity undertones. There is an ever so mild tartness to the beer but I would hesitate to call the beer sour. It is very smooth and easy to drink.

There is a light mouthfeel to this beer.

Overall a nice smooth funky saison of sorts. One of the better beers I have had from Lagunitas.

On Tap

Churchill's Pub & Grille
San Marcos, CA

Slightly hazed light yellow with a small white head that doesn't leave much cling down the glass.

A big, expressive aroma of barnyard funk, bright citrus and white fruit (lemon and tart green apples), along with some oak, and white wine. Complex, interesting, and delightful.

The funk is very bold and expressive and is this beer's signature, with lots of lemon, apple, and oak flavors complementing things nicely. This is great stuff.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

They probably do themselves a disservice by labeling this a gueuze, because it in no way at all resembles one. I can't understand the name here at all. That being said, this is a fantastic, funky, mildly sour, interesting, complex wild ale. Kudos to Lagunitas on this first, incredibly successful attempt.

This was probably my favorite, and certainly the most interesting, beer at the Lagunitas beer-pairing dinner.

Hazy light-gold color with an off-white head.

Banana oil, yellow flowers, yeast, ground wheat, hay, citrus.

Citrus, pine sap, stirred yeast, mint.

Medium- bodied with a mild hop bitterness that leaves a very clean finish on the palate.

Really an odd beer. It wants to get there, but ends up being a shadow of the style.

What a weird beer. Never had anything like it. Pours a cloudy yellow, with thin white head. Solid lacing though. Aroma, some might call it convuluted, some might call it complex, I tend to lean towards the 'all over the place' descriptor. You get farmhouse, a perfumy kind of fruit, and brett moreso than specific gueuze lambic like sourness or fruit notes. Lots of white wine type grape and oak qualities in it as well. Seems like belgian yeast phenols at the same time as well.

Taste, sourness is much lighter than most gueuzes, again, this doesn't really seem to be a gueuze, but nonetheless, you call it that, its gonna be compared with all other gueuezes. The perfumy flowery funk isn't offensive, its like being in a garden.

I dunno, its kind of like its really good for a saison, underwhelming for a gueuze.

On Tap at Lagunitas

A- Pours a bright golden color with minor head that died to a fluffy white layer of head that remained for the entire drink, slight lacing but not much.

S- A wee bit of funk but a great smell that is hard to come by for us in the states. Funk followed by an oaky buttery goodness present in many AWAs.

T- A smooth AWA with mild funk. Not to sour / not to funky... just a nice crisp cold beer. Might be the tops from Lag. I will have it sometime again.

M- Nice light body with loads of carbonation that cleanses the palate and leaves you wanting to drink more of this beer. My mouth is still watering after each sip. An excellent brew.

D- Huge drinkability, could drink this all day and have no problem. Wouldn't destroy my gut - a solid beer.

Poured from tap into a tulip. Pours a nice dark orange/gold color with a very frothy head.

Very good aromas of spices, funk, navel oranges and a good amount of citrus notes as well. Good depth, not as funky as I would expect given its called a gueuze.

Medium bodies with a nice feel, but lacking on the mid a slight bit. It does have a very nice dry finish to it with a lot of flavors of spice, citrus, and funky notes.

It's not really a gueuze. It's the little sumpin wild aged in wine barrels. As a gueuze it doesn't fully hit, but it is a very good wild ale.

On-tap at the Distillery in Savannah, GA

A - Golden straw colored with a thin, creamy white head.
S - Wheat, sour apples and barnyard "funk".
T - Tons of green apple, almost like a cider. Pear, straw and more "funk".
M - Crisp and dry with nice fizzy carbonation.
D - Quite drinkable, tart but it won't destroy your palate.

I really enjoyed this one, thanks to dplittle for providing the info on this, I had no idea it was blended like it is. It was a nice surprise to find this on the menu, wish I drank more!

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and poured with no head or signs of visible carbonation.
S: There are moderate aromas of sourness, oak and chardonnay in the nose.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell and also has flavors of dry grapes.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is quite drinkable because all of the flavors blend together rather well and the sourness is not overpowering.

On tap at the source.

A: Pours a slightly hazy amberish orange with a trace white head which quickly fades to the rim leaving clumpy lace behind.

N: Sharp tannins, cheesy funky must and dust. There is a lovely "old" smell that is difficult to describe.

T: Fruity (cherries), oak tannin bite with moderate acidity.

M: Semi-moderate body and carbonation. Tart finish.

O: Not expecting this and was pleased to find it so good. Nice work.

I had this beer among a number of sour beers at a sour beer event at Rattle N Hum in Manhattan. It was great to taste so many sour beers side by side and this one was somewhat middle of the road in comparison to many of the others, although it was still quite good.

Very light in color with an adequate amount of carbonation. Not a huge head but it did stick around for a while

Aroma was of oak as well as some of the sour quality was able to come through in the aroma.

Flavor was very well balance for the style with a good amount of sour, not too much, but it lacked in any sort of characteristic unique to this beer.

Overall a very good beer but difficult to judge on its own merits when it is next to a bunch of other sours.

Drank at Lagunitas once a week during all of July.

A: Golden in color with a gently crown of foam. Slight lacing throughout consumption.

S: Lots of creamy milk sourness. Funky and tart. Lemon peel and green apple.

T: Sour cream. Slight lemon rind. Slightly earthy with loads of funk.

M: Very thick and creamy. Viscous on the palate. Very nice.

D: I could drink this all day. My favorite Lagunitas brew of all-time. It was becoming better and better as the brew was aging with lots of creamy goodness.
