look: 4.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance - Pours a crystal clear golden honey with a finger and a half of white head, good retention, and the resulting lace is thin but sticky.

Smell - Sweet red grapefruit aromas, and a faint touch of alcohol.

Taste - Predominately a sweet ruby red hop upfront, with notes of pineapple... and also, do I detect the faintest hint of smokiness?

Mouthfeel - Light to medium body. Fairly smooth. Carbonation is bubbly.

Overall - Pretty delicious beer, but is it really all that different than Lagunitas Sucks, Wilco Tango Foxtrot, Imperial Red, and even Lil' Sumpin Sumpin? All have that dominant sweet ruby red hop character, and only minor variations outside that. I love the flavor, but can we try something different now?

Reviewed this about a year ago, fee like revisiting it.

22oz bottle (code 12141914) into a tulip. Pours a crystal clear golden orange w/ a thick sudsy white head, good retention, bits of sticky lace. Lazy carb rises from the bottom.

Aroma is a tropical blast of mostly citrus and pine. Clean, sharp, a little sweet. Boozy.

Taste follows nose. Clean pale malt, grapefruit, dried apricots, alcohol. A honey sweetness reminds me of Hop Stoopid or Hopslam. How is this an American Strong Ale? DIPA all the way.

Mouthfeel is expectedly chewy, sticky. Coats the palate.

Overall I still really like this one. The balance between the bright bitter hops, sweet tropical malt, and strong alcohol works well.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Libbey stout glass.

A: Pours a golden-amber with a nice white head. Great lacing and retention.

S: Huge tropical hops and light malt sweetness in the nose. Perfumy papaya and strawberry.

T: Boozy tropical and citric hops over a strong pale malt base. Mango, orange, papaya, solvent alcohol.

M: Decent carbonation, medium-bodied.

O: Great showcase for Lagunitas' hop usage, but doesn't really seem that different from a DIPA to me.

Pours a clear light coppery amber in color with a half finger high off white head that has good retention and never completely faded away.

Aromas begin with a moderately strong amount of mango and pineapple hops. As it warms you get some grapefruit zest, honey and a decent amount of flaky biscuit maltiness.

The taste is slightly different compared to the smell in that it opens with the grapefruit and orange citrus hops along with more notes of caramel maltiness than was apparent in the aroma.

The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Finish is lightly bitter but balanced enough by the malt backbone.

Overall this was a nice offering to sample on draft but nothing I need to revisit anytime soon. A solid Imperial Red Ale in that the alcohol is well masked from the smell and taste and the hops are fairly solid but not overly bitter. Well balanced and would be great anytime of year, with or without food.

Cellared a bottle for ~11 months. Just delicious. Less hop aroma and flavor than when fresh, but it still packs a hefty dose of bitterness. The sweet, caramelly malts really shine, and there's a bit more softness and complexity than 9 months ago. Beautiful aroma of bread, graham crackers and honey. Reminiscent of a youngish barleywine and super drinkable. Big, white, bubbly head. This beer is money.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Dogfish Head Signature Glass.

Color: A cloudy orangish-red wih an off white head.

Smell: Honey and roasted malts up front. Followed by pineapple, oranges and piney hops.

Taste: Same as the aroma. Delicious!

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, smooth with a light dryness on the palate.

Overall: Medium bodied. Complex with a decent balance. I really enjoyed the complexity with all the citrus, honey, hops and malts. Cheers.

Thanks to Adam @ Platinum.

Pours a clear golden Carlton colour. Great head/lacing.

Smell is funky malt, concrete, tea, yeast, alcohol. Very English barleywine-esque with some extra hops, also quite boozy. That concrete character is a bit off-putting. Some toffee, orange malt and citrus.

Taste, on the other hand, is just big sweet subtle citrus. Big distinction from the nose. Still get a sense of the alcohol in the mouth.

Mouthfeel is like getting a flat on an exercise bike then suddenly hitting a medium-sized hill. Not too bad really. Bitter/alcoholic.

Overall a good but not great Lagunitas beer. Lead by example; enjoy your life.

hazy orange body with a fingers worth of off white head rises and settles rather quickly leaving next to no lacing. smells of tropical candy, sugar, hops and bread. taste is very similiar to the nose. lots of candied sugars and hops. mouthfeel is thick and chewy with the high level of sugars. good carbonation and some hop bitterness on the finish. overall this isnt my cup of tea, too sweet.

A - Pours a hazy golden orange with a finger of frothy off-white head atop. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some good lacing.

S - Aroma is full of sweet bready malts with lots of citrus and pine hops, and some candied tropical fruits.

T - Starts off with some strong citrus and tropical fruit hops with some candied grapefruit and strong bitterness alongside some sweet malts. Through the middle, some more sweet bready malts come through with some resiny pine hop and more bitterness. The finish is a mix of sweet bready malt, candied tropical fruits and bitterness.

M - Medium-full bodied with medium-heavy carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet and bitter finish.

D - Very drinkable. A pretty different American Strong Ale with some nice fruity flavors that belnd in and feel balanced.
