A: Pours a hazy orange-amber color. The medium-sized, faintly amber-tinted, head has a medium, frothy texture. Retention is average, and a bit of lacing is deposited on the glass.
S: Some sweet, wheaty notes in the nose. Spicy, peppery phenolic notes combine with a fairly assertive alcoholic presence. Cloves and very ripe bananas are evident. Some nice yeasty character overall.
T: Lightly tangy and moderately sweet up front. Yeast character takes the forefront here. Spicy notes of clove and pepper are prominent, along with some banana and orchard fruit (ripe pears). Alcohol adds a bit of spiciness and heat as well, but manages to be refined despite prominent presence.
M: Medium body. Carbonation is supple and smooth, and a bit on the light side. Thanks to some moderate phenols and prominent alcohol, the finish is fairly warm and dry.
D: A nice offering from Lagunitas that strays a bit from their "strong ale with boatloads of American hops" modus operandi. The alcohol is integrated nicely, but comes across a bit too sharply overall. This is a good weizenbock, but there are better American (and German) versions out there.

From my tasting notes: The Lagunitas version was a much lighter cloudy orange color. There were lots of bananas and cloves in the aroma and my first taste was amazing. I really love this style. Despite the light color the taste was very full and heavy on the caramel malt, banana, and wheat with lots of complexity that hid its high alcohol content well. I thought this was a fantastic beer and Lagunitas treated the style with respect.
