This special brew was designed with the help of our Freistaat Bayern brothers who also built the brewhouse upon which we brewed it. It's a new twist on an old tradition!

not rightly a weizenbock as listed here, its an ale, but its wheat driven, fully german, and really quite distinctive. brassy looking with red tones and blonde ones both depending on the light, a little haze, and well over an inch of foamy white head, all peaky and lasting. the nose on this is sweet, a little alcoholic, earthy and wheaty and toasted and baked, with familiar hefeweizen type yeast esters, i get clove and pear specifically, and then in typical lagunitas fashion, quite a bit more hops than is normal for something german inspired, citrus, burnt orange, floral honey. neat yeastiness to the flavor, lemon cream, dish detergent, and light vanilla, clove, and cardamom, neat with all the wheat and some of the sticky hops coming in, never bitter, dry hoppy though, green pear, green apple, white grape, clementine. its full bodied, creamed up feeling, with some underlying minerality, late onset white pepper and anise spiciness, and with the citrusy hops adding freshness. nicely charged on the carbonation, definitely some exposed alcohol as it warms, flavorful beer, sort of a style bender, but its very lagunitas, in a good way. i miss the days when innovation was more robust here...

2017 bottle poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours hazy golden amber with a frothy light tan head that settles to a thin layer and leaves a little spotty lacing.

S: Yeasty, slightly herbal spicy floral notes, kinda funky bready wheaty malt, banana, vanilla, faint citrus, a little dried fruit, and some caramel honey sweetness.

T: Funky bready wheaty malt, banana, some spice, dried fruit, fig and date, vanilla, floral notes, light citrus, orange and lemon, some yeastyness, and rounded out with caramel honey sweetness.

M: Medium to full body, moderate carbonation.

O: Definitely not a style I drink with any frequency. In fact, it's rather far off from my usual stuff so it threw my palate for a loop for a bit. That said, it was a fun one to try and I'd say it's aged rather well, probably rounding out some of the Lagunitas-ized edges into a somewhat more traditional flavor profile. Wouldn't mind seeing this one brewed again.

22 ounce bottle into a pilsner glass. Had 11/9/17.

Pours a lightly hazy, kind of sickly looking orange, with a two inch plus head and some foamy lacing. Smells of malt, light caramel, a fruity tropical hop aroma. Wheaty and a little grassy. The taste is malt, a piney hop bite, some caramel and bread, a little pineapple. Good amount of hop bitterness on the finish. Smooth, a good body, well carbonated.

Hardly a traditional rendition, but has less hops than I expected. Very drinkable, but no reason for them to bring it back.

Picked up a bomber from TW Arrowhead on 10-9-17 for $4.99. No bottling date visible. Received at TW in 6-6-17 - took a chance on the 4 months residence on the shelf.

Beer poured orange with a solid white head that has some hang time.

Nose has hints of bubble gum and citrus.

Taste is bubble gum and citrus over a large wheat base. Finish is surprisingly a citrus hop.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and pretty smooth.

Overall not a bad beer but nothing special.
