NOTE: I am reviewing this as an IPA, not a DIPA. I don't think this is a DIPA. So keep that in mind as you read this.
served on-tap @ Flying Saucer, Kansas City, MO, into a tulip glass.
Pours a very clear honeyed orange color. It's so filtered; I mean, there isn't any cloudiness to be seen here. Not a whole lot of head on this pour, but the lacing is A-OK.
The aroma on this beer is amongst the very best I've ever had. This is a seriously killer IPA aroma. It bursts forth with lush mango and pineapple and passionfruit and a little bit of orange and kumquat. It's so Goddman tropical! I can't even make out any malt aroma here, which is fine by me. This is so, so hoppy.
The flavor doesn't live up to the immense promise of the nose. It's much less overtly tropical. Flavors of pineapple and mango are still there, but they play a supporting role to the grassy bitterness this beer has. Cracker malts show up too in a supporting role. It all works together, certainly, but I do wish that it tastes as tropically as it smells.
The mouthfeel is pretty light for an IPA... which happens to be just how I prefer 'em. It's somewhere in between dry and juicy, but the important part is that it has a thin body.
Overall, this is one damn good IPA. As a Double IPA? Not so much. But as a regular ol' IPA this is a beer that Lagunitas should consider brewing more regularly. A damn fine achievement.

Very clear amber colored pour, lots of bubbles, durable head. The looks remind me of Sierra Nevada Celebration, and that's a very good start. The smell was highly potent out of the glass at an arm's length. Very citric hops with a touch of pear, and the intensity is great. I could just smell this beer for a while. The taste another hop assault, as the grapefruit, tangerine, and bitter orange flavors just hit all at once. The malt is not much of a presence here except providing some sticky sweetness. Medium dense and creamy feeling in the mouth. This was a very well crafted DIPA. There is of course no substitute for Brown Shugga, but I hope they keep this one around too. Otherwise they would really suck :)

I've been enjoying this beauty almost all of the crappy dark winter now and with what seemed to be and endless supply in my area now drying up I decided it's time time stock up and review. Poured from a bottle into a Lagunitas widemouth jar mug. Beautiful honey golden color with about a half finger head. The aromas will about knock you out, very floral with pine and plenty of hops as well as some honey. Taste is amazing nice sweet honey upfront followed but a bit of pine with hops galore. Great bitterness that is not overpower but lingers nicely. Good body without feeling filling or heavy. This is really a nice beer that won't let you down.
