Served on-tap in a Shaker pint at Beer Run (Charlottesville, VA).
A: Dusky amber with 1/2 finger of big-bubbled off-white head with average retention and a few scraps of lacing.
S: Big dry-hop aromas of pine, resin, and tropical fruit with some grapefruit aromas. The maltiness is light and crackery overall but with a bit more caramel than I remember from the bottle.
T: The flavor is big-time hoppy with orange, lemon, grapefruit citrus and a little bit of pineapple and mango also. THe maltiness is not quite enough despite the ABV to stand up in any meaningful way to this hops assault.
M: Slick but almost a little too dry with light-medium body.
O: I enjoyed my bottles last year more than this on-tap presentation. And while this is a solid beer and rightfully highly anticipated, I was a little let down by this on-tap.

The Lagunitas Sucks is a tasty drink. Belly warming and deeply satisfying with a strong (8.0) potency.
The flavor is brown sugar and molasses. My palate is scorched from a few years of heavy IPA drinking, but I can recognize the pleasure in this fine beer. Unlike other brews that try to balance hop intensity with a cloying malt sugar-ness, this beer is balanced. The scent and taste are sweet and fermented -- not overdone and not really honey sweet.
After a few sips I notice a light malt taste on the back of the tongue -- an enjoyable aftertaste. But it is not a strong tasting beer . . . nothing prevents one from smooth sips and perhaps even drinking the beer too fast. Worth consideration as an epic 'session' beer or as a contribution to a holiday party (I'm drinking this in July).
The beer poured with a lively orange yellow with a healthy head. Looks cool in the glass and in the 32 ounce bottle. Recommended.

Brown sugar ale, but everyone knows this is an IPA. Tastes pretty similar to the regular Lagunitas IPA, but the taste is a little bit sweeter. That doesn't mean it's like molasses or caramel, it's definitely an IPA that kicks pretty hard but goes down nice. Good for a hearty meal, and versatile to drink in hot or cold weather.
