Notes/Commercial Description:
This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

A: Orange-amber, but mostly transparent color, with a minimal head.

S: Millions of citrus notes coming at you, right from the get-go, along with a good deal of brown sugar in the background.

T: Delivers on the aroma -- a mouthful of citrus and hops, along with malt.

M: Light and balanced -- deceptively easy to drink considering a decent ABV.

O: One of the lightest and best double IPAs around -- made even better by its wide availability here in CA. There aren't a ton of DIPAs that fall into the "every day beer" category, but Sucks qualifies.

Pours a crystal clear, deep orange-gold with two fingers of fluffy white head that settles to a thin cap with plenty of lacing. The aroma is not as pronounced as some DIPAs, but still very pleasant. I'm getting grapefruit in the front, with some pineapple, mango and flowery pine in the back.

Grapefruit is first in the taste as well, but it rides alongside the pungent pine that is fighting for the spotlight. The carbonation seems just right--crisp and lively without being over the top. A little lighter in the body than I prefer, but it still has that slick oily feel that a DIPA should. More citrus, tropical fruit and some sweet bready caramel balance the bitter hops nicely. The pine sticks around for a few seconds to make sure you know who's boss.

I'd have to do a side-by-side with Maximus to see which I like better, but either way it's a photo finish and both belong in the top tier of DIPAs. The balance and drinkability that Lagunitas has achieved in these two brews is impressive.

Pour is mostly clear orange amber with a fairly tight white head and strong lacing. Nose has a bit of caramel malt and notes of bread. The hops are citrusy and piney. Taste is balanced as well, sweeter caramel malt, bread is a bit lighter. Hops in back, more bright than the nose, lots of grapefruit and pineapple. Lighter body, strong carbonation, dry clean finish.

Served into a standard 16oz pint.
A - Nearly clear golden yellow, two fingers of fluffy white head that fades fast, a little lacing.
S - Good lord, this smells like everything you'd want. Pineapple, grapefruit, orange, mangos all over the place papaya, fresh lemon, sweet pine, light floral hops underneath that cascades into an immensely fresh smelling beer.
T - Tastes as every bit good as it does smell. You get a serious mango flavor from this, lighter biscuty malt, sweet acidic hop flavors, lemongrass, pine and citrus, so unbelievably good.
M - Medium feel, balanced carbonization, a bit of the ibu in the end.

O - Each time I drink this, I like it more, Note that its full flavors come out above cool, i'd say somewhere around 45-50. Full bodied lush hop bomb that is bursting with juicy fruit flavor that is sure to make any hop head satisfied. Lagunitas blew it out of the park with this seasonal brew. Makes 2013's Hopslam, and Pliny taste like absolute piss.

UPDATE: Very good like last year, a little more pine and citrus instead of mango, but still packed with tropical notes, the aroma is STILL the best thing in the world.
This is the best beer to me. I enjoy every moment of it.

Aroma: prominently citrus hop aroma, slight alcohol very nice

Appearance: light golden white head that lingers

Taste: orange, tangerine, resiny. Very nice hop flavor. Alcohol very slight.

Mouthfeel: medium light body medium carbonation.

Overall: very nice beer with a balanced fresh hop character. Goes well with Indian food. Very drinkable one of my favorite easy to get beers.

A: Brilliant clarity goldenrod, bone white head that doesn't last, medium to syrupy.

S: Floral, apricot/stonefruit, piney, juicy, tons of hops. Smells awesome.

T: Awesome mix of resinous pine, sweet stonefruits - apricot, peach, oranges, tangerine. Big flavor, medium bitterness. Has an approachable character and a very pleasantly fruity aftertaste - maybe even some melon?

M: Medium to full bodied, sticky and syrupy. Full and creamy.

Awesome IPA from Lagunitas.

I walked past this beer a number of times at TW because I couldn't get past the name. After reading a couple of reviews--and looking for a citrus-forward IPA--I FINALLY picked up a sixer. $8.99 after applying $1 coupon; quite a bargain!

This brown-bottled beer was poured into a 1 pint Ball (wide mouth) jar.

Appearance - A light amber ale with a quickly dissipating white head; sticky lacing.

Smell - Yummy! Sweet grapefruit, mild pine, and a hint of caramel.

Taste - Thankfully it tastes exactly as it smells...Delicious! If you're a fan of Jai Alai, you'll love Sucks.

Mouthfeel - perfect.

Drinkability - High! Can't believe I walked by this stuff---never again.
