This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

12oz bottle poured into a Guinness pint glass.

Pours a clear golden with a finger-and-a-half frothy bone-white head. Fairly poor head retention--fades to a film and ring after only about a minute--but plentiful carbonation and sticky sheets of lacing.

In the nose, the bright hop aromatics practically leap from the glass. Dank pine, mango, pineapple, papaya, grapefruit, and tangerine form a redolent and heady bouquet.

In the mouth, Sucks opens with a bonanza of juicy citrus and fruit flavors--grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine, mango, and peach in particular--as well as a light peppery note. Bready malt notes appear mid-palate, as well as a light caramel sweetness. Finishes piney and with a resurgence of pepper.

On the tongue, medium-bodied and crisp but with a slick, oily finish. Feels lush.

On the whole, tasty as hell and deserving of its hype. One of the better DIPAs out there, especially given its fairly easy availability.

A: Golden orange, wet straw appearance. Moderate carbonation with a fury of bubbles rising to its thick creamy head.

S: Pineapple, mango, tangerine, combined with an inviting citrusy hop aroma. A definitive tropical IPA.

T: Very well balanced with all of the aforementioned tropical flavors coming into play. The hops are there but somewhat muted, compared to a DIPA, because of the tropical fruit tones.

M: Creamy and smooth, reminiscent of drinking freshly squeezed pineapple juice. Alcohol is well hidden for 8% alcohol.

O: Not my first time enjoying this beer. Very similar profile to Schlafly's Tasmanian IPA. Both delicious. Always catches my eye when it's in season. Lagunita's is definitely a front runner of the legendary California hop scene. Cheers

A: Golden yellow color with a small white head.

S: Tropical fruit mostly, with some citrus compliments.

T: Initial flavor is quite minimal, but it builds to fleshy exotic fruit with a little bit of citrus bitterness. A touch of pine resin holds briefly in the aftertaste.

M: Solid IPA feel, not over or undercarbonated and has a body one would expect in a good beer.

O: A great beer, but it didn't completely live up to the hype for me. However, I don't tend to get excited about fruity IPAs, that's just my preference. It's certainly a must-try IPA though.
