Poured into a pint glass from a growler at fridge temp.

Pours out a light golden yellowish color, good clarity. A nice big 2 fingers of white head, big soapy bubbles. Decent retention and lacing.

A nice big tropical fruity, hoppy aroma. Dank, pineapple, catty aromas. No real malt noticeable.

Follows the aroma with some nice dank, catty, tropical fruity hops. Pineapple, mango, and some sweet citrus. Just a little bit of a grainy malt barely noticeable, definatly a hop forward brew. Smooth bitterness in the finish.

Needless to say a light bodied beer and very easy drinking. I can see sessioning this all day on a hot summer day, or anytime really.

Overall, a very solid iPa. It lacks any kind of malt foundation, but that's to be expected with the low abv. It has some really nice hop flavors and aromas going on. I'll be sure to revisit and look forward to more low abv beers with big flavor.

The key to my beer heart when it comes to session ales, comes down to a simple ratio:

Lowest ABV:Most Taste

To me a session beer needs to stick to its guns and keep the booze light, but keep the taste heavy. This one is almost there. The ABV is relatively low (4.65%) and the taste is good. It's nice and hoppy, but that taste is gone almost right after you send it down your thirsty gullet. It doesn't quite live up to that nice dank smell you get out of the bottle, but I think it's a keeper nonetheless. While I'm certain there are probably heavier tasting sessions' out there, I think the taste bang is right for the ABV buck.

First time available in Milwaukee, bottled Julian 178, June 26th. About 13 days old.

Appearance: Bright yellow, very translucent, slightly hazy. Pretty standard for a super low abv session ale.

Smell: Packed with aroma. But you don't get any malt or bittering hops, just aromatics. Still, it smells pretty damn nice.

Taste: Ok. First impression is good-you can actually taste the aroma hops, which is always a bit odd with session ales. But the same taste that you just smelled is packed in there. A slight vegetal/onion touch in the middle and on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Fairly thick for a session ale. Probably some wheat in there somewhere, which would also account for some of the murky vegetable flavor. Leaves itself on your palate a bit, def some wheat at the end.

Overall: I keep trying session ales waiting for one to wow me. Carton Boat and Central Waters Hop Rise are both great, this is more along the lines of boat but without the attention paid to overall flavor. It's pretty obvious that they poured on the aroma hops at the end of the boil, would have liked just a touch more pure bittering hops at every stage of drinking this beer.

Appearance: Pale yellow with a decent head and lacing, lots of carbonation.

Smell: Grass, grapefruit, pineapple.

Taste: Bready malts, citrusy hops.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a slight hop bitterness in the finish.

The Verdict: It’s OK. A bit bland, and the least flavorful of all of the session IPA’s I’ve had so far. Lagunitas does big flavors very well, subtle flavors not so well methinks.

drinkin a sixer of this in various cups,

pours with a white head that maintains throughout, no matter the cup; looks like a crisp beer for summer.

smell suggests otherwise as it has that infamously pungent lagunitas hops aroma.
with that i was expecting some kinda reduced hop stoopid, but instead of hoppy bitterness(which has its time and place), i tasted crisp rose-hippy goodness

after tasting rose's, i began to smell it.

this justify s their motto: "life is uncertain, dont sip"... drink it like water bound to ale all through these summer months.. reminds me of a rose hip ipa from "sierra nevada's Beer camp " of years past

overall its my favorite "ipa" of the summer

Poured into my new DFH IPA glass, if you breathe on these things too hard they may break. The glass looks great filled with it's first session IPA from Lagunitas they actually call it a fractional IPA. Pale golden malts provide a nice looking appetizing beer in the glass with a bright white head fine speckled lacing left behind. Aroma is popping with floral hops, citrus, mango and pineapple tropical fruit notes...this is quite the hop bomb. Underlying breadiness comes through from the pale malt base. I wish the flavor was as expressive as the aroma, but it's really a good session IPA up there with the likes of Sunshine Daydream from Fathead's, Stone Go To IPA. Bready malts not watery, hop light session IPA. I've been asking for these for years, I still love the big brother more but this little guy has some serious drinking potential, citrus, floral hops come across on the palate with minimal tropical fruit. Mouthfeel has nice carbonation slightly sticky on the palate with minimal resins definitely a light bodied session IPA. Weighs in at 4.6% abv that definitely classifies as a session ale, I'm glad it's here for some summertime drinking.
