On tap at When Pigs Fly.

The beer was a pretty gold color with a medium-sized white head. There was a lot of lace.

Aroma of citrus and sweet malt.

Taste of grapefruit and pineapple and biscuit.

Appropriately hoppy. Nice example of a west coast IPA.

Definitely a beer to drink again.

Poured into a taster at the Beer Kitchen in KC.

Pours a super light yellow/gold, almost hay like. Very clear, almost lager like. How strange for an IPA!

Smells is clearly of piney and citrusy hops, with a tiny hint of fresh roasted cracker malty goodness.

This beer is a great IPA starter for a new craft drinker. Very light on the palate, not super bitter, with great diversity in the hop flavor profile. Light on the stomach as well.

On-tap 11/16/2012 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep yellow color but light for the style, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, floral hops and light caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a strong fruity citrus sweetness. Then a strong, dominant and grassy hops bitterness comes in. the malt character is very thin for the style but brings a good enough balance to make everything work. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and very crisp, light-to-medium body, medium-to-high carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a very good sessionable IPA worth pounding for a long time.

On-tap at Cannery Row Brewing, on to the beer:

Looks clean bodied, pale yellow colored, lots of carbonation bubbles visible in the body. There's s chunky soapy head on top which leaves a few marks of itself on the glass. Then the fin begins, as a fresh and brilliant aroma of hops arise out of the beer. Very fresh and fragrant pine, with littler notes of orange and grapefruit.

It's light, but its hop levels are right there with many IPA's. Very fresh pine and tea-like hops dominate the scene. There is just a little of pale malt to add a subtle sweetness and canvas to the beer. The beer is light and crisp, and as one could imagine, is very easy to drink.

I've tasted this before, so I knew what I was walking into. This is a good hoppy ale that won't kick you in the pants too hard.

Serviceable IPA on tap at The Cannery Row. Some European hop, citrus fruity, citra like aroma. Spicy which lends taste at this surprisingly low abv. Little sweetness, this is bitter heavy. Medium bodied. Cloudy yellow with some retained head. Not so drinkable, even after it warmed, but served too cold.

Damn, Lagunitas hits it again with this brew! Served with a nice sized foamy, cream-colored head that slowly settles to a light cover and lots of lace. Color is a clear, pale gold with plenty of bubble trails. Aroma is a very pleasing and aromatic blend of hop, malt, caramel, fruit, citrus, with a bit of pine. Flavor's like nose, sweet/bitter/carbonic tang all perfectly balanced. Body is perhaps a trifle thin, carbonation is great. Finish is like flavor, average length, and superbly drinkable.

From notes taken at brewery yesterday, where it was listed at 4.6% ABV :

Pours a clear golden colour with decent carbonation, but not as many amber highlights as I'd personally choose for a beer of this style. An excellent hop-forward aroma of citrus and tropical fruits. Unfortunately the flavour isn't as well balanced, a bit thin and astringent in the bitter finish, and in the body missing some of the malt backbone typical of an APA.

Still a very flavourful beer for this low ABV and one I would definitely purchase again.

This is a great session IPA. LBC should brew it year round just like some of the other "seasonals" that we can't get enough of.

There's nothing light about the flavor in this offering. It comes through with a bold resinous hop flavor. Nice refreshing mouth experience.

Clear, bright gold color, moderate head. Scent is a nice medium level of juicy citrus and tropical fruits with moderate pine. Taste follows suit in composition... solidly hoppy, lightly bitter with some spice, faintly sweet malt profile. Lighter side of medium bodied, lacks body and coating of a typical IPA but still good. Solid beer all around, although I have had Pale Ales with more malt profile and heft with less ABVs.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Sampled in a small snifter. White head with medium retention. Oily, clear lacing. Very pale in color, light yellow with high clarity. Maybe the lightest ipa color I've ever seen. Aroma is grapefruit and pine, very very hoppy aroma. Low in carbonation, light in mouthfeel. Taste is nicely bittered with little to no residual sweetness from any malt. I see what they were going for with this beer and while it may not be the most balanced and complete ipa ever, it is as advertised. Both tasty and sessionable. Very nice.

Served on tap at Lagunitas. Appearance is very pale with a hint of cloudiness. White head with heavy lacig and decent retention. Nose is full of pine, resin, and grapefruit. Taste is full of floral hop flavors with heavy bitterness up front, some light fruity flavors mixed in, malts are subdued. Mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Nice full flavored "small" IPA... Tons of flavor.

On tap at The Ugly Moose.

Lagunitas Daytime came from the tap to me with some small spirts of suds on top, not even a cap, no lace on the way down. Smell is very lemon peel rich, a nice dose of hops, not smelling any malt addition, clean and pungent. The taste is a nice bitter hit of alpha laden hops, lemon is the main flavor in my opinion with some small grassy taste in the end. The malt is really nowhere to be found, hidden oh so well. Feel is light bodied, easy to take down, but the bitterness would wear after a while. A nice low sessionable beer.

Pours a very clear, light golden color with a nearly white, short head. Very grape fruity citrus nose. Wet, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Finishes with a little mild carbonation scrub. Grapefruit from start to finish. A little juicy at the end. This brew is in my wheelhouse. Love it!!

Pours a clear, gold color. 1/2 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of citrus hops, floral hops, sweet malt, slight earthy malt, and wet hop. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of wet hop, slight floral hop, sweet malt, hint of yeast, and slight earthy malt. Overall, great appearance, good aroma, feel, and blend.

On tap at TJs in Paoli. Nice to see a low abv IPA. Poured from tap into a nonic pint glass.

A: A medium straw color with huge glass lacing that sticks. A one finger white head sits atop.

S: Really citrusy with some lighter tropical fruit, coupled with some graham cracker sweetness and a hint of herbal hops. Very light and refreshing smelling.

T: The citrus hops are the main player here with huge lemon and pineapple flavors. Mixed in are peach, tangerine, grapefruit and some light herbal notes. Sweetness is cracker and biscuit like with some graham cracker type sweetness, but it's really subdued. The hops stay and turn bitter as the finish turns bone dry.

M: It's actually fairly light, but in a good way. No hint of alcohol and it drinks way too easy.

O: A very nice lighter IPA that is very session like. Crisp, clean with huge citrus notes, what's not to love?

Winner, winner chicken dinner. A great low abv IPA that you can drink all day long, but stills retains the west coast style. Nice.

A great idea by Lagunitas - a session IPA. This one is very light-bodied, but still dishes out that citric, hoppy taste. The new Deschutes Chainbreaker is similar to this in how light and refreshing it is. Lagunitas would be wise to get this one out a little earlier in the year - it's perfect for summer.

Pretty hoppy but nothing compared to Stone's go to. I'd drink it if offered for free.

A - 3.75 - straw colored, white head, OK lacing
S - 4 - grapefruit, floral, minimal bready malt
T - 4 - grapefruit, floral, bready malt
M - 4 - surprisingly big body for 4ish percent. No alc to cover. Aftertaste minimal.
O - 4 - it was alright. Drank because someone offered it to me, apparently its widely available and a decent price

A- Pours a light yellow hue with a small head that fades quickly with some lacing.

S- Citrus, bready.

T- Floral, citrusey hops all the way through with a lingering hop bitterness.

M- Medium bodied and effervescent.

D- Amazingly drinkable. I will keep this in the normal rotation as a session beer.

A- Finger thick pale white head. Foamy and light like champagne. Pale golden beer with steady streams of carbonation and perfect clarity.

S- Resinous, floral and citrusy hops. Robust aroma with hints of onion and earthiness. Sweet malt offers a bit of balance.

T- Hint of tangy citrus, but almost watered-down. Earthy with some grapefruit. Still getting hints of onion.

M- Light with mid carbonation. Refreshing and crisp even.

Good, light sipping beer. I'm in.

got four from my boss Bc he didn't like them. Made me somewhat wary.

A - very pale yellow body. A little cloudy. Thin white head.

N - grassy. Light hop notes.

T - citrusy hops. Grapefruit / lemon.

M - fine.

O - very drinkable. The Ipa label gives expectations that this didn't quite meet, but it is a rather pleasant drink. Nothing special but good.

General: Found a 6 pack of this down in San Diego and brought it home. Poured this into a bottle logic lab glass for the tasting.

Appearance: This is a light gold, crystal clear with a light fluffy white head. The head doesn't lace too much and it diminishes fairly quickly.

Aroma: this is a nice light hoppy grassy aroma with some mild hints of citrus. This is a classic style IPA aroma, I love it.

Mouthfeel: For a traditional IPA this is a little thin but they are marketing this as a "fractional" IPA in that it's not a big alcohol beer. This seems about right for this style. The carbonation is moderate.

Taste: Great light bitterness with a slight hit of citrus. The hops come through first and foremost just like an IPA should. There really isn't any malt supporting this hop but because it's so moderate, it just works.

Overall: This is awesome, a nice mild IPA that you can drink 4-5 of at a bar-b-q and not be hammered. This will be one of my go-to IPAs once I can find it locally!

12 oz. bottle poured into a Burley Oak snifter

A: It looks like yellow Gatorade. There is no head with only a small cluster of bubbles. I also get no lacing. The beer is almost a neon yellow.

S: This smells really good, with lots of hop notes. It is very floral and balanced with pine notes. Quite excellent.

T: Quite good. I had to pick this up so that I could continue on my session IPA kick. A while ago, I had sampled it but I needed to give it a full try, especially given the fact that I had thought it tasted good. Well, this is a nice hoppy beer with a slightly watery body, but somehow it all seems to work together with the flavors here. Light citrus and floral, with only a bit of grass and meadows.

M: An excellent level of carbonation that tickles the tongue and is nice and prickly. The carbonation really helps with conveying the body here and covers up/masks some of the watery/thinness of it.

O: Another great beer from Lagunitas and one of the better session IPAs. I would say this is just below Stone's recent Go To IPA, but not by much.

a: extremely clear straw yellow color with a 3 finger frothy uneven white head

s: oniony garlicy hop smell right away. pineapple, mango, apricot, and a nice fresh grassy aroma. also a chewy sweet malt backbone. i suppose there is some of what people like to call 'cat piss' in here as well. cheezing balls over here

t: its very mild and smooth. it follows the nose in a very mellow way. its juicy pineapple/mango and tropical fruit, with some of that garlicy flavors as well. still picking up some of the chewy malts in the backgrounds - its a very light toffee flavor. ends same as the nose, fresh and grassy. slight grapefruit bitterness

m: its a lighter mouthfeel, but as mentioned, its a bit chewy.

o: this is my first session ipa, and i'm a fan. its the same as a normal ipa, just mellow. i don't want to say watered down - because thats not right, and incorrect. everything is just slightly toned down. this has a good balance of malt, juicy fruits, and just the slightest cut of bitterness. this actually reminds me of a toned down Flower Power

Appearance is light yellow golden with slightest bit of a haziness with frothy white head dissipating slowly. Sweet bright citrusy floral hop aromas very inviting and fruity, tangerine undertones to it. Hoppy spicy bite on tongue to a fruitiness mid sip to bready smooth finish. Tastes of orange, grassy hops and some sort of berry bread. Mouthfeel is light to medium with crisp carbonation and a dry finish. Tasty brew, a lot of flavor for such low abv.

Bottled Jan. 20 2014.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Tree House snifter.

a: Clear gold with a finger thick white head which receded quickly to fairly even thin surface foam and moderate lacing.

s: Medium citrus.

t: Quite strong citrus hops up front over a light malt base. Bitterness is pronounced on the palate and tongue. Bitter finish.

m: Light to moderate.

o: A hop-dominated low ABV IPA. Good summer brew if hops bitterness is your thing. I prefer Lagunitas regular IPA over this, and Sucks way over both of them. Their hop bite is easier to take and more pleasantly citrusy than here, and their malt bases are significantly more substantial.

Here it's almost like they took their regular IPA and removed most of the flavor, leaving just bitterness. Or like they took a mainstream lager and hopped it up a few notches. For me this is Lagunitas' least enjoyable offering. Although I have rated their Czech Pilsner a hair lower, in that review I was influenced by the fact that pilseners are generally not a personally preferred style.
