A- pours a golden brassy color with teo fingers of very white head. Very good head retention with solid lacing.

S- wonderful bouquet of resiny woody pine and tropical fruit. Floral with a biscuity malt on the finish.

T- much lighter on the palate. Short lived yet intense hop flavor up front with a woody pine. Tropical fruit notes in the middle. Very low bitterness for an IPA with a biscuity dry malt flavor on the finish.

MF- slick mouthfeel with a light body. Average carbonation.

D- very drinkable

Poured from 12oz bottle into Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Clear, bright gold with a small, thin white head that leaves behind more lace than expected.

Smell: Tropical fruit and citrus (grapefruit and lemon). Also some pine notes in the background.

Taste: Begins with tropical fruitiness that turns into breadiness and finishes with pleasant citric hops and a balanced bitterness in the background.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with balanced carbonation and a mildly dry finish.

Overall: A solid all-round IPA. However, I'm going to give this category a 5- it is rare to find a beer with this much hop depth that is also so easily drinkable and has a low enough ABV to be this sessionable.

12oz : tulip

Clear, bright yellow with a foamy, white head.

Wow, big tropical fruit. Light grapefruit. Really nice.

Not quite as huge hop flavors, but still very nice fruity, grapefruit notes, balanced well with a cracker, biscuit malt profile.

Medium-light body with low-medium carbonation.

Very well done for what it is supposed to be. A big flavored, yet easy drinking, low ABV, IPA.

Consumed 10/8/12

Appearance: Crystal clear, golden with some orange highlights - minimal white head, minimal lacing, doesn't entirely look like a standard IPA, but this isn't a standard IPA...

Smell: Nicely hoppy - bright and citrusy, as one would expect from a Lagunitas IPA - orange, grapefruit, and some lemon, mostly flesh, some pith - some tropical notes, both fleshy and floral - light pine and some mint - malts are nonexistent

Taste: Kind of like a hoppy soda, but in the best way possible - orange, grapefruit, lemon, mango, and pineapple - very fruity, juicy, with flesh and pith - a mild to moderate amount of spicy bitterness - some pine and lightly sweet mint - some hints of malts, a lightly grainy and bready base - pale, and it works

Mouthfeel: Light, nicely crisp, very clean and absurdly drinkable

Overall: Hard to rate, easy to drink

If this were supposed to be a full-blown IPA, I would say that it is a bit watery. But it's not. And for what it is, it's great. I've attempted to score this in its own imaginary "Session IPA" style. It's a light bodied, stupidly drinkable light beer with a great hop profile. I could drink a lot of this... Too bad it's limited.

Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle into a Duvel tulip. No freshness date. 6-psck purchased at Wine Warehouse (Charlottesville, VA) for $9.99.

A: Light golden with 1-2 finger white frothy head with decent retention and a nice crust of lace.

S: Huge punch of citrus and pine hops, slightly resinous, and very light malt tones.

T: The hoppiness is intense and the malt backbone can't quite support the hopload, leaving the hops juicy but a little too much like juice. The hops are grapefruit citrus, light lemon, pineapple, mango, and floral components. THere is faint malt sweetness, but only faint. The flavor is huge but too one-sided.

M: The feel is not thin but instead a little astringent. The heft is fine but the feel is too harsh.

O: Definitely not a bad beer and perfecting this consept of a <5% IPA should be a priority.

A: A lighter golden colored IPA with a medium white head. It shrinks fairly rapidly into a tight cake-frosting-like 1/8" layer.

S: Stinky fruit, citrus and melon, over a light malt backbone. Green tea scents also work their way through this. Crisp, refreshing, and clean smells.

T: Bright and sun shiny flavors throughout with good balance between sweet, bitter, and fruity/floral. Citrus peel bitter dryness comes in waves between the mouthwatering candy-like hops. The ABV% fits this beer perfectly.

M: Slick smooth light bodied beverage. Carbonation is just right at the beginning and becomes a little mellow as I near the end. (I'm not drinking this slowely).

O: This is a very easy to enjoy, lightly hopped IPA. Super sessionable.

Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Light golden yellow, tan, not much of a head or lacing.

Smell - Very floral, crisp hop profile. Lots of citric notes, pine, grape, lemon, some yeast and spices. Smells really nice.

Taste - Dry hopped and piney as hell. Mild sugars counter the bitter hops. Maybe slight malt flavor after this warms up some. Spices add a pepper bite along with lemon and pine flavors. No alcohol presence to speak of.

Mouthfeel - Hops are dry, crisp and bitter, nails the tounge though they are light, just coat it, dont wreck it. Palate gets more floral hops, some sugars and spices. The finish is dry, bitter and crsip.

Overall - Really well done light alcohol, low body ipa. Really high in hops for what the beer is. Nice floral flavor, would be a amazing summertime, bbq beer. Easy to drink, espically when you dont want a palate wrecker or something high in alcohol. Worth a drink for sure.

Crystal clear golden colored with a medium off white head and decent retention. A little too clear maybe. Faintly malty/grainy aroma with very little hoppiness. Light hop flavor on an appropriate malt backbone. Light, crisp and dry mouthfeel. This is a good beer but its also very unremarkable. This beer's claim to fame is apparently its low alcohol content, which is indeed unusually low for Lagunitas but it's not a 2.5% ABV beer either. And for an under 6% ABV IPA, it is not tenth the beer Masala Mama is. But it is sessionable for sure, and being so light in flavor, this is pretty much the perfect gateway IPA. That's about it.

Appearance: Gold, ok head.

Smell: Pith, rind of citrus, lemony.

Taste: Bitter lemony citrus hits in a flash and then almost disappears. Hint of a bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Very light feel, flavor hits and vanishes.

Overall: I'm liking the trend of lower ABV big hop beers. This one seems a little strange in the flavor doesn't stay on the palette very long. But it gives a nice hop hit and the bitterness level seems low which makes for easier drinking.

Bottle poured into a teku glass.

Pour: Clear yellow orange with a finger and a half of white head. Leaves a little lacing. Okay looking.

Smell: Nice grapefruit and breadyness. Pretty one dimensional with that, but it smells good.

Taste: Really nice light citrus and grapefruit, followed by a clean bitterness and some light biscuity sweetness.

Mouthfeel: This is really so drinkable. Amazing, especially for the flavors it packs.

Overall: I've seen/heard this described as a mini-ZD, and it really is. All the same flavors, in a less substantial package. Good stuff.
