Poured out of a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. "Session IPAs" are not a particular favorite of mine, but I'm always a fan of Lagunitas' offerings.

Pours a golden pale color, perhaps even more pale than their pilsner that they release year round. With a slightly aggressive pour, this yields a good amount of fluffy white foam about 2-3 fingers high in the glass. Good carbonation, and decent lacing for a low ABV beer. There's simplicity yet some class and elegance to it.

Smells fantastic - by far the best I've experienced with these session IPAs. Orange peel, pine, grapefruit, pineapple, and lemons - this is definitely dry hopped to all hell to make up for the low gravity product, yet it's not astringent at all at the nose. A slight biscuit flavor permeates, maybe that of toasted crackers, but it's all about the hop oily aroma here, with a slight sweetness at the finish. Lagunitas never lets me down with their hoppy offerings, and this looks to be a flavorful one.

Woah, that's some dry stuff - totally caught me by surprise, but the flavor from the aroma is still retained rather well. Notes of dried lemon rinds, grapefruit, and pine coat the palate, followed by a cracker flavor and slightly sweetened texture that is overtaken by the acidity and bitterness from the hops. It reminds of a dry white wine in some ways, while still lacking the fruitiness and minerality I tend to enjoy in that category. It's surprisingly grainy at the finish, which seems to double the astringency, and strangely, it finishes very wet and slightly thin (even for the style), which makes it a little less on the refreshing side on its own and little bit better when paired with fatty food (I had this with pizza). Good, but not my favorite from this brewery.

As far as session IPAs go, this could definitely grow on me in the long run. Pairs really well with food, but it's definitely a bit intense texture-wise for what it aims to be. The lack of any sweetness from the alcohol makes it a little unbalanced, but as far as dry low gravity beers go, this is interesting one in the same manner as, say, De La Senne's Taras Boulba, as well as other similar offerings that have started to pop up around here. Tired of some of Lagunitas' hoppy high gravity choices? Try this one!

Poured into a wine/tulip/snifter

A - A pale straw sunset, two finger frothy head and a bit of sticky lacing

S - Mega Hops right off the bat. Pine and pineapple scream at you. Sugary sweet is next. Some weed and fresh cut grass, fresh bready yeast, clean crisp water, some green and brown earth and more hops floral, fruity and tons of citrus especially rind.

T - Really clean fresh hops up front. malts/grains, bready yeast, pine, pineapple, fresh cut citrus, fresh cut flowers and a huge bitter hop bomb at the back end

M - light and fluffy body, huge acidity, very clean balance, sexy complexity and a very clean hop bomb of a finish

D/O - Super refreshing, crisp, clean and glorious hoppiness. Just a great all around, all day, everyday IPA. The ABV isn't for those looking to get there buzz on, but wonderful none the less

Final thoughts - Bit expensive $10 for the 4.6% abv, but great anytime of year IPA for sure
