Gold and orange with a touch of cloudiness, this sat with a short head and left plenty of lace.

Citrus and grapefruit are strong in the smell, with a touch of earthy hops and malt in the background. Pine pops up in the taste but light and balanced across malt. The mouthfeel is appropriately light without being thin, and this is highly drinkable.

I do not find too many american pales that I want more of, usually they leave me wanting either something more mellow or a full on IPA. This is an exception, great blend.

Bottle poured into a clear plastic cup. Beer pours a dark amber, mostly clear, with two plus fingers of loose bubbly white head. Head laces a decent amount while dissipating quickly. A few bubbles here and there, but not super carbonated.

Nose is pure pine and grapefruit. Not much malt character coming through the hop aromas.

Hop bitterness hits the tongue first, more bitter than expected for an APA, primarily pine and herbal hops, with a touch of grapefruit peel as it warms. Some caramel malt sweetness comes through as you swallow. Lingering pine flavors predominantly.

Light mouth feel with a decent amount of carbonation. Pretty tasty APA and very easy to drink as the initial bitterness is easy to grow acclimated to.

Raul is on the beat and during it well. Straight up at the Lagunitas tasting room and sucking on the goody goodies.

Raul's Dodger shirt might not be playing well with the crowd, but Fillmore Pale Ale is. So many times Raulsky has had a Pale Ale that deters between an IPA and what it claims to be on the bottle. But this thang? Straight Pale Ale goodness.

Yep!

You smell this thing, and the citrus jumps right out. Nice pine tree flavor kicks in, and the bitter balances right on the back end done oh so cleverly. Wonderful head, lacing, cold is good but as it warms up its gets even better. Didnt expect it to be amber in color, but doesnt take anything away. This is a beautifully crafted beer for a prestigious name and legacy. Bravo Lagunetas. Bravo.

Bottle opened on 2.14.13

A - Pours a clear copper- orange with a two inch off-white foamy head with solid retention.

S - Hoppy citrus, sweet and tropical, and touch of grass.

T - Hop citrus and pine, pretty muted and soft.

D - Good carbonation and a light body.

O - Soft and subtle. Hop focused ale.

Attractive amber-tinged golden in the tall Stella glass. A nice head to start and plenty of frothy lacing. Quite adequate carbonation in the mouth.

Smells quite hoppy, but the taste is not so bitter. Fairly light bodied. Modest fruity flavor with a hint of pear skins. Lots of resiny and piney flavors. Dark undertones of burnt biscuits. Bitter aftertaste wears out its welcome, but IPA enthusiasts will like this one. Foam lasts well in the glass.

A plain but quite quaffable Pale Ale. If it was even a little lower in ABV it would be a great entry in the Utah Supermarket Beer sweepstakes. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Coit Liquor in San Francisco.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into an Allagash cervoise glass.

A: Two fingers of head have decent retention. The actual beer is a pellucid amber, with a handful of bubbles. Pretty.

S: Bright grapefruit and herbal-spicy hops. Smells a lot like Lagunitas IPA. Dry malts.

T: Damn tasty! Honestly, without a side-by-side comparison, I might be hard-pressed to differentiate it from the IPA...lighter and fruitier perhaps? It's only lightly bitter, with the excellent tropical undertones of the hops shining through. The aftertaste is biscuity and dry.

M: Full, malty-dry, and rather unremarkable.

O: A thoroughly enjoyable, if unspectacular, beer. I would have another or two, and recommend it to all. Lagunitas refuses to classify it, but I'd say it's a pretty hoppy, drinkable pale ale.
