Before getting into the review on this one I'd like to note that it's been aged (properly) for about a year. I'm aware that you're generally not supposed to age IPA's but I'm a fan of more malty IPA's and with the 6.2% abv on top of the fact they they claim this beer has "imperial malt qualities" I figured I'd give it a shot. So, here goes...

Pours a beautifully hazy, dense looking orange/yellow color. Not a whole lot of visible carbonation in the glass. Sort of reminds me of my girlfriend...looks delicious but definitely could have yielded a little more head.

The scent is mostly dominated by a wonderful caramel maltyness. After that I'm getting hints of citrusy hops and a tinge of alcohol.

Taste is similar to the smell in the sense that it is malt forward, which was expected and its definitely not a bad thing. A nice smooth caramel maltyness followed by a slightly bitter grapefruit hoppyness. Alcohol is well hidden. Delicious.

Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, especially for a westcoast IPA. Goes down VERY easily. Low carb level with a lighter side of medium body.

Overall, interesting enough, this beer aged pretty well. If you're into experimenting with your cellar I'd recommend throwing one or 2 of these down there for 6-12 months. This beer is also great fresh but it was a cool idea that didn't turn out to be a failure.

This is a very classic IPA. It had a fairly large head when brought to my table. It has crisp citrus flavors, with a little bit of a hop aftertaste. I'm not sure of all the flavors, but they combine to create this delicious IPA that goes great with any type of food

Poured from a brown bottle into a pint glass.

Aroma was piney hops. Not strong, but pleasant.

An inch think, off white head was atop a gold, maybe light copper body. Very clear. Big bubbles in the head and a few bubbles visible rising from the bottom of the glass. As I drank the beer some lacing was visible on the glass.

Taste was assertive piney hops. Not overpowering but definitely a strong hop flavor. I tried to find a malt character but just kept coming back to the hops. That said, though, it's not just pure hop juice. This is a very enjoyable IPA. Easy to drink and enjoy.

I've had the pleasure of visiting the Lagunitas brewery and tap room in Petaluma, CA on several occasions and I do enjoy their beers anywhere I can get them. If you're looking for a quality IPA this will not disappoint.

Poured this from a bottle into a pint glass. Also had it on tap several times. Pours a nice copper/caramel color with an ok frothy white head. Head has been different on some pours.

Taste: I really don't know what it is about this beer but I love to drink it. There is no special flavor that stands out, maybe it is how balanced I find it? Bottom line, I love this beer and rate it higher than most people. I have this Lagunitas a lot and will continue to.
