7 ounce pour at Always Ron’s.  Beautiful straw color with a nose of fresh hops and a slight spiciness, perhaps from the hops. Easy drinking and smooth, the citrus hops rush over your tongue and leave you wanting more.  Nowadays, it’s hard to get too excited about an IPA, but Lagunitas shows why they are money….producing solid beers.

I've heard from several people that this was the IPA to try, so I went to the local beer distributor and bought a bottle.

This is an amazing beer. Definite hints of citrus in the aftertaste. The hops are noticeable but not overwhelming like you find in other IPAs. It also has the right amount of carbonation.

If you haven't tried this, I would highly recommend you do so. You will not be disappointed.

Appearance- Pours up an okay amount of head that has decent retention. The head is almost pure cotton-white with tinges of yellow while the body is a slightly darker pale amber which appears as a pale amber when held up to the light. Lots of lacing with big patches of sheeting.

Nose- Very faint citrus, some orange, some lemon. I'm guessing from the date code that this might be near the end of its range of freshness. There appears to be a Julian date code (266 3) which would make this beer almost 3 months old. Touches of honey and caramel. Swirling shows a little bit of peach and more caramel.

Taste- This may need to warm up a little bit more but I'm guessing this is near the end of its range. Mild notes of citrus, followed by some pine and resin, a little bit of earwax. Lack of presence for almost everything. Some grapefruit, a little bit of matchstick. A little bit of spice, mostly pepper. Citrus notes are minimal, with caramel in the middle, while pine, resin, and matchstick dominate. But even these aren't that strong. Still, a pretty good indication that this wouldn't be my kind of IPA even if it were fresher. Fairly boring. Not a bad beer, just not interesting. Above average but pretty average for the Lagunitas lineup.

Mouthfeel- Between light and medium bodied with a light amount of syrup to the texture. Appropriate amount of carbonation but still a bit of a bite.

Drinkability- Perhaps a little too easy going for an IPA? I do like the spice on the end. The pepper is nice and makes this beer a little bit more interesting and that more interesting. Standard price for Lagunitas' beers- so very reasonable.

Overall- This seems as if its 88 days but it also seems like more of a bitter IPA than a juice bomb. Not bad but about above average. Worth a shot but I think almost anything by Lagunitas is.

Clear amber color with a thick head with good retention and apparent carbonation and leaving laces.
Sweet citrus aroma with predominant notes of passion fruit and grapefruit.
Delicious flavor of grapefruit and passion fruit, slightly toasted malts, pine and American spicy yeast. Dry aftertaste with a long lasting bitterness.
Light to medium body with good carbonation.
A very balanced and crisp citrusy IPA. Assertive with a traditional IPA recipe that was well executed to perfection.

An IPA straight from the 90s.

Lagunitas IPA is solid all-around, from its golden, slightly sediment-filled appearance to its mellow feel and citrus aromas. The smell gives a solid amount of cattiness and grapefruit, which also comes out in the flavor.

But what stands out most is how well balanced it is. The hops aren't in-your-face, but they're there through the whole tasting. They blend well with a bready middle and mouthfeel, and they still stick to the palate after the sip.

Doesn't stand out in the category, but it'd be wrong to call it anything less than outstanding.
