look: 4.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance - Pours a deep, golden amber with an off-white, 2-finger head with average dissipation. The resulting lace is fairly abundant and sticks like hell.

Smell - A bit of spice and citrus hop. Under this, a sweet malt aroma.

Taste - Pine and citrus hops, orange with a bit of bitter pith character, put into balance by a strong, sweet and clean bready malt backbone. Hops hold on to provide a slightly bitter aftertaste. Hints at a subtle peppery spice. Better than a 3.5 score, but not quite a 4. No 3.75?

Mouthfeel - A fairly thick and malty IPA. The carbonation bites, but comes off as underwhelming due to the thickness of the beer. Bone dry finish.

Overall - A fairly good IPA. I feel like it could benefit by scaling back a degree or two on the malt, which seem unusually high for the style. Still, it's a very drinkable brew, and one I'll buy from time to time, especially when options are limited.

Straightforward west coast-style IPA, on tap at Delta Grill in NYC. Not bad but not as good as Sucks or Leftovers or Hop Stoopid (I know those are doubles, so sue me). Golden orange color, a bit hazy, with a decent white head, fair retention and lacing. Grapefruit and piney hop aromas with a touch of sweetness, pretty familiar in the nose. Taste follows suit, somewhat more subdued hop character than I’d like, again, lots of grapefruit and pine, pineapple and orange, some malt sweetness underneath. Bitter but not overwhelmingly so. Smooth, medium bodied with medium carbonation, decently dry finish, just a little bitterness hanging around after. Good but not exceptional.

label description is enticing. pours a bubbly clear orange/yellow color with a big white head that fades back to just a quarter inch. smells rather bland (compared to the taste!). a bit of sweet resiny hops and some sturdy harvest time malts. citrus in there too, smells extremely fresh but not overly aggressive for a west coaster. flavor is all hops, even though the label says its a battle with the malt, it isnt much of a fight. the malt provides some nice body, but this is a hop show. they are fruity in character and a little acidic. they fade from sweet to bitter and stick around in the mouth awhile. feel is nice, but the alcohol is prominent in the taste too, which i think detracts at only 6.2%, but it is certainly distinct. good bubbles and enough body to stand up a bit to the hops. its a nice beer and worth the hype because its different, but there are some better india pales out there for sure. moderately better when fresh on tap, and a heck of a nice food beer.

edit: the more i drink this the more i like it. its familiar now, and in the context of so many other india pale ales, this one is really starting to stand out for me. especially on tap.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle, note visible date. It is of a golden color, a one finger white head that dissipated into lacing. This beer has a nice citrus aroma, with some pine and sweet malt. Taste is not overpowering with hops, rather easy drinking, with notes of pear, pine, and grapefruit. The mouthfeel is smooth and clean, with moderate carbonation. This would be a good beer to have with poultry or fish, but not what I am looking for from IPA. It does not make a strong enough statement.

A - Nice clear copper. Stark white head, lots of cling. Looks very inviting.

S - Sweet malt is dominant. Hops are very muted.

T - Taste matches smell almost perfectly, but maltier and less hoppy than I had hoped.

M - Medium body, good carb, balance is definitely to the malt. Hops are very low.

D - One is enough. Too sweet and not hoppy enough for an IPA. Maybe an older bottle?
