12oz bottle poured into an imperial pint glass.

A: Pours clear, bright golden copper (you know the color those brand new pennies have, close to that but a shade darker and not shiny). Head starts off fluffy and recedes into a cap but that lacing is as apparent as ever.

S: The first few beers out of the sixer didn't seem to give up the kind of aroma I am finding here. I guess that's the benefit of turning the TV off for a review? In any case I am getting some tropical fruit notes, mango and pineapple in particular, but there is a strong underlying current of bready malt, if a bit stale, that comes out of the mix as well.

T/MF: Mmm, pretty solid, very well rounded and I am not afraid to say that. Malt comes through to the perfect degree, caramel malt comes out matched/blended almost indistinguishably from the earthy, slightly resinous hops. Feel is pretty standard for an IPA a bit sloshy but can't complain overall as it feels like an IPA, a bit grabby on the back of the tongue and mid-bodied, what else can you say really?

D: In a word. Decent. Nothing mind-blowing, very well rounded and pretty fun to drink but there are better beers for less money.

Looks more like a pale than an IPA if I'm being picky- transparent gold, average head/retention.

Smells like a malty tinny grapefruit.

Nice refreshing taste. Fruit is at the forefront. Doesn't have that snap that an IPA oughta. Actually their regular pale ale seems hoppier to me...strange.

This is a good beer and if it was the only thing at a friends' house I wouldn't be disappointed but I want more from a year-round IPA...this one's a little thin.

It's like a higher abv SNPA with subdued flavor/hoppiness.

Overall worthy, though.

The beer poured a clear deep gold and builds a weak white head which dissipates fast and leaves good lacing.
The smell announces fruity hops and malt.
Tasting the beer you have quite a lot of malty sweet flavors, caramel and honey. In the middle the flowery hops kick in to balance this beer, but the malt presence I find dominating to much!
A nice beer, but not one of the great ones.

A: golden/amber with very thin head, which went away fairly quickly.

S: molass, sugar, sweet fruit, pine apple, fishy,,,?

T: some dish with fish sauce? I am distracted by this flavor and it's not that good in the beer... grape fruit hop flavor comes after that, but doesn't go well with fishiness. In overall, it feels plain/flat on the palate, and feels balanced. one drawback is this fishiness. it's just distracting.

M: relatively dry, and goes down freshly.

D: not so drinkable with that weird taste that I can't get over with...

A: Gold Copper-ish body.

S: Smells of hops and sweet malt.

T: Taste of citrous(grapefruit?). Slightly hoppy and sweet.

M: Smooth/creamy, medium bodied and carbonation.

O: Very easy drinking beer. Perhaps too hyped. I was expecting the hops to have more impact but it's still a good beer. Buy this in bulk and share with friends. I'll defiantly keep this in mind.

12oz bottle poured into short stemmed wine glass. Bottle marking on back say 06 11. I would assume that means bottled in June 2011. Could be wrong. Funny label, "... as the raging hop character engages the imperial qualities of malt foundation in mortal combat on the battlefield of your palate!"

Pours a deep semi transluscent copper brown with a sexy pillow off white head. Slides down into a thin layer leaves tracks on the side of the glass. Mild lacing thereafter. Really stellar looking IPA!

Fruity hop aromas with light caramel malts & spicy earthy, almost peppery, cues in the nostril. This isnt a hop bomb though, hops dont dominate the nose.

Taste is really a symbiotic experience. Hop presence throughout the whole as well as the caramel maltiness, as if they were combined - caramel hop. The end comes a bittering & spicy pull on the palate. A drying pepper taste leaves you wanting to go back for more.

Body is a perfect medium (5/10) & has a 'foamy hop' feel characteristic of Lagunitas brews.

Purchased a 6pack at Total Wine & More for $7.99 - $1.00 coupon, $6.99 for a six pack. What a steal. Lagunitas keeps gaining favor in my mind & on my palate.

Pours a nice amber chocolate color with a darkish cream head.
It was easy to pick up the hops in the bouquet here. It had a very nice attractive nose to it, mostly hops, a little malt with some citrus like fruit.

The taste was good, perhaps somewhat disappointing to me since I was expecting a hoppier beer. It was clean and refreshing, I could detect more citrus in the taste than I could in the smell

This one was nice, but I could have rated it higher if the finish to the beer stayed up with its start

Happy IPA Day, this is beer 1 of the evening. 22oz Bomber poured into a Shaker Pint.

A - Beautiful Amber orange, tons of activity makes this beer look inviting. Small head looks rather creamy, good lacing, nice activity. My mouth is watering

S - Super floral, I don't even need to put my nose that close to get wonderful citrus and pine notes

T - A bit sweet to me. The citrus is nice and there is a good malt presence but the malt is just to light to me really need more to round it out a bit more.

M - Sweetness sticks a the tongue to much, leaves a sugary oily aftertaste, decent carbonation

O - A good IPA, but not the best

A- Golden orange. Head is one finger. Sticks to the glass, but it kinda fizzled out.
S- Smell is well balanced, some piney hops and rather prevalent pale malt aroma.
T- It's well balanced, which is appreciated, but the hops cut out too soon. Piney hops at first, but they don't last as long as I'd like. Pale malts in the finish.
M- Light body, but not too light. I found it to be a bit flat too.
O- It's a decent IPA, but it didn't live up to expectations for me. Good, but not great.

A - Pours a clear amber with plenty of visible carbonation, foamy 1 finger head.

S - Light pine and a bit of citrus mix together, along with a nice sweet malty character. Inviting

T - More of the piney, earthy hop than the citrus are prominent, bitter finish

M - A bit thin on the mouthfeel, good carbonation.

O - Good IPA, but not the best. Wouldnt avoid this but probably wouldnt seek it out

Pours one fingers worth of white bubbly head. No lacing, and a small cap of head remains. Golden yellow body of which is quite clear.

Smells piney, orange peel, various other citrus notes. Some maltyness comes through as it warms, with a touch of carmel.

Tastes fairly straight forward, citrus, piney and a touch of carmel. A bit more sweetness comes through as it warms up.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, medium carbonation, a good amount of lingering hop bitterness remains.

Overall this is a solid IPA. Fairly drinkable for the style.

Purchased as a single from Wine and Beer Westpark in Glen Allen, VA - dfh snifter

Pours a nice hazy orange yellow with no head and not really any lacing. Smells earthy like 2 hearted, grassy and hoppy. I like it but i'm more of a fan of the fruity IPAs. Taste is great, nice and dry, prickly and bitter.

Overall this is a SOLID IPA at a good price. One to keep in the fridge.

overall this is a really good American IPAs. one of the best i've had. lately breweries have been trying to go too hard and hop it up as much as possible. I like how Lagunitas keeps it real and makes a great, regular IPA

Lagunitas IPA pours a light coppery amber, with a frothy white head leaving some nice sticky lacing as it falls.

The aroma has some citrus and a fairly strong pale malt scent.

The flavor is slightly sour citrus with a good bight of pine resin and a strong bready pale malt backing things up. A touch of caramel in the malt flavors and a fairly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is firm but still on the light side of medium, slightly creamy.

Overall a nice IPA, I'm going to give this beer a second shot however when I know a new shipment has come in to our local stores.

A - A nice full pint of amber IPA with a frothy white head.

S - Good mix of hop character: citrus, pine, spice. A bit of that vegetal sweetness that comes from blown hops, but the aroma is overall enjoyable.

T - Fruiter than I anticipated, but citrus and pine hop flavor, as well as a firmly bitter finish, round out this beer nicely. Again some of the vegetal character I detected in the nose, but the beer is a fine accompaniment to dinner.

M - Fuller mouthfeel, but still on the lighter side and plenty quaffable.

O - Even with my knock on its freshness, this beer is still quite solid. Happy to see a full pint at a non DC-price.

Bottle (2011)

Windmill Farms
San Diego, CA

Auburn and gold with a touch of haze running through. Big and thick off-white head. Some regular lacing down the glass.

Pungent citrus aroma consisting of orange, melon, and papaya. Strong and potent.

Bitter IPA with strong citrus flavors running through it. Balanced nicely by some caramel malt. A great staple IPA. This is certainly a worthy little brother to one of my favorite DIPAs, Hop Stoopid.

Perhaps the only place this beer is lacking is mouthfeel; it feels just a touch prickly and sharp.

A great staple IPA; a good beer to have in the fridge for typical guests and beer lovers alike. I have many fond memories of drinking these @ A's games during my stint in Northern California. Nothing beats a Lagunitas IPA and booing the Yankees!

12oz bottle, no date.

Pours a lighter golden-copper color with fair amount of head & lacing.

Scent consists mainly of fruity, herbal-pine hops.

Flavor is also fairly fruity, on the cherry side, which switches over to a piny, tea-like hoppiness with a bitter finish.

Full in body, but not too thick or syrupy. Easy-drinking.

Solid IPA; not as exotic as many of the tropical/grapefruit/bitter-bombs out there now, but certainly deserves respect as a West Coast forerunner.

This beer pours a pale amber color with two fingers of thick foamy white head that retain and lace amazingly. The aroma is strong with floral hops and some malty sweetness. Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Dark brown/tan, copper. NIce 1/2 creamy head, and lots of lacing.

Smell - Malts, hops, pine, sugars, fruits.

Taste - Hmm, pretty mild and smooth. Hops are bold, not bitter or sweet. Malts add some thick, bold flavoring. Has a pepperish kick near the end.

MOuthfeel - Starts off a little thin and bland. Then hops hit tounge and bitter it. Palette gets some malts, and sweetness. Aftetraste is really dry and bitter.

Overall - Not bad, its too mild and bland. A stadard ipa really, but man the aftertaste is dry and bitter. Alot better ipa's out. This isnt terrible by any means just your standard style done before with nothing new brough to the table, and just a little to weak hop character.

Mostly clear amber with a good two fingers of head from an easy pour. Plenty of lacing. Aroma is floral spicey hops. Taste is full bitter hops but with a fine malt backing. Less tongue abuse than many. Mouthfeel is great and carbonation is just right. Very crisp. Since Hop Stoopid came out I drink this less often. Much closer to a daily beer than H.S. and well recommended.

appearance is golden with a finger high head that leaves a nice lacing. do i seem some sediment floating around in there? very pretty appearance. Smell is weaker than most west coast IPAs but in my opinion i prefer an IPA thats not overwhelmed by hops. Smells piney then citrusy. First thing i notice is the mouthfeel is very pleasing. This beer doesnt attack the back of your tongue and stay there like some IPAs. Floats softly across your palate. Taste is hoppy at first but then it is subdued by a sweet malt. great combination of the two. Doesnt leave a strong aftertaste. Wasn't expecting much from this brew but i am pleasantly surprised.

Poured a crystal clear amber color that looks very appetizing. The head fades fast but laces the glass and the carbonation stays powerful. The smell falls a bit short in comparison to other lagunita brews and lacks the signature scent that most of their hoppy beers have in fact its a bit of a turn off as its a bit pissy. The taste is good for an IPA but again lacks the hop mixture I am accustomed to. Bitterness is there but a bit muted a little dry but some sugar cane comes through at the end. Very citrusy with lemon rind and pearish qualities but no caramel sweetness. Overall good but I like maximus and sumpin sumpin much better.

12oz bottle poured into a Harpoon IPA kolsh-style pint glass.

Appearance - Large, loose barely off-white head with great retention and not much stick. Clear copper body.

Smell - Hoppy aroma with a balanced malty sweetness to it.

Taste - Medium to mild hoppiness. A bit of alcohol hidden under the brunt of it. Very mild sweetness well hidden under the surface which you almost don't notice, but works well at balancing the beer.

Mouthfeel - Refreshing. Easy going. Almost none of the typical astringent qualities you'd come to expect from the style.

Overall Drinkability - A great balanced, mild IPA. Might be a good gateway IPA to get people into the style, if they've had poor experiences with hoppier, more 'arrogant' IPAs. Refreshing and laid back. Though after a couple of these hop teases, you might get in the mood for something with a bit more of a kick.
