Purchased as a single from Wine and Beer Westpark in Glen Allen, VA - dfh snifter

Pours a nice hazy orange yellow with no head and not really any lacing. Smells earthy like 2 hearted, grassy and hoppy. I like it but i'm more of a fan of the fruity IPAs. Taste is great, nice and dry, prickly and bitter.

Overall this is a SOLID IPA at a good price. One to keep in the fridge.

pours a clear orange w/ a frothy white head. leaves good lacing.

smells citrusy and sweet and light on the pine.

taste matches the aroma, excellent IPA
mouth feel is good
overall this is a really good American IPAs. one of the best i've had. lately breweries have been trying to go too hard and hop it up as much as possible. I like how Lagunitas keeps it real and makes a great, regular IPA

Lagunitas IPA pours a light coppery amber, with a frothy white head leaving some nice sticky lacing as it falls.

The aroma has some citrus and a fairly strong pale malt scent.

The flavor is slightly sour citrus with a good bight of pine resin and a strong bready pale malt backing things up. A touch of caramel in the malt flavors and a fairly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is firm but still on the light side of medium, slightly creamy.

Overall a nice IPA, I'm going to give this beer a second shot however when I know a new shipment has come in to our local stores.

A - A nice full pint of amber IPA with a frothy white head.

S - Good mix of hop character: citrus, pine, spice. A bit of that vegetal sweetness that comes from blown hops, but the aroma is overall enjoyable.

T - Fruiter than I anticipated, but citrus and pine hop flavor, as well as a firmly bitter finish, round out this beer nicely. Again some of the vegetal character I detected in the nose, but the beer is a fine accompaniment to dinner.

M - Fuller mouthfeel, but still on the lighter side and plenty quaffable.

O - Even with my knock on its freshness, this beer is still quite solid. Happy to see a full pint at a non DC-price.

Bottle (2011)

Windmill Farms
San Diego, CA

Auburn and gold with a touch of haze running through. Big and thick off-white head. Some regular lacing down the glass.

Pungent citrus aroma consisting of orange, melon, and papaya. Strong and potent.

Bitter IPA with strong citrus flavors running through it. Balanced nicely by some caramel malt. A great staple IPA. This is certainly a worthy little brother to one of my favorite DIPAs, Hop Stoopid.

Perhaps the only place this beer is lacking is mouthfeel; it feels just a touch prickly and sharp.

A great staple IPA; a good beer to have in the fridge for typical guests and beer lovers alike. I have many fond memories of drinking these @ A's games during my stint in Northern California. Nothing beats a Lagunitas IPA and booing the Yankees!

12oz bottle, no date.

Pours a lighter golden-copper color with fair amount of head & lacing.

Scent consists mainly of fruity, herbal-pine hops.

Flavor is also fairly fruity, on the cherry side, which switches over to a piny, tea-like hoppiness with a bitter finish.

Full in body, but not too thick or syrupy. Easy-drinking.

Solid IPA; not as exotic as many of the tropical/grapefruit/bitter-bombs out there now, but certainly deserves respect as a West Coast forerunner.

This beer pours a pale amber color with two fingers of thick foamy white head that retain and lace amazingly. The aroma is strong with floral hops and some malty sweetness. The taste starts malty sweet and then becomes floral. The mouthfeel is balanced and finishes clean... Almost a little too clean. Overall a good IPA.

Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Dark brown/tan, copper. NIce 1/2 creamy head, and lots of lacing.

Smell - Malts, hops, pine, sugars, fruits.

Taste - Hmm, pretty mild and smooth. Hops are bold, not bitter or sweet. Malts add some thick, bold flavoring. Has a pepperish kick near the end.

MOuthfeel - Starts off a little thin and bland. Then hops hit tounge and bitter it. Palette gets some malts, and sweetness. Aftetraste is really dry and bitter.

Overall - Not bad, its too mild and bland. A stadard ipa really, but man the aftertaste is dry and bitter. Alot better ipa's out. This isnt terrible by any means just your standard style done before with nothing new brough to the table, and just a little to weak hop character.

Mostly clear amber with a good two fingers of head from an easy pour. Plenty of lacing. Aroma is floral spicey hops. Taste is full bitter hops but with a fine malt backing. Less tongue abuse than many. Mouthfeel is great and carbonation is just right. Very crisp. Since Hop Stoopid came out I drink this less often. Much closer to a daily beer than H.S. and well recommended.

appearance is golden with a finger high head that leaves a nice lacing. do i seem some sediment floating around in there? very pretty appearance. Smell is weaker than most west coast IPAs but in my opinion i prefer an IPA thats not overwhelmed by hops. Smells piney then citrusy. First thing i notice is the mouthfeel is very pleasing. This beer doesnt attack the back of your tongue and stay there like some IPAs. Floats softly across your palate. Taste is hoppy at first but then it is subdued by a sweet malt. great combination of the two. Doesnt leave a strong aftertaste. Wasn't expecting much from this brew but i am pleasantly surprised.

A-dark gold, fairly clear, thick white head that sticks around

S-even though my nose is stuffed up and the beer is probably too cold, the smell is very hoppy with citrus

T-very bitter, grapefruit, slight pepper, malt is present but doesn't get in the way, clean and bitter aftertaste

M-medium, fair amount of carbonation

O-solid IPA. Hoppy without anything too overwhelming. I could drink a lot of these.

Poured a crystal clear amber color that looks very appetizing. The head fades fast but laces the glass and the carbonation stays powerful. The smell falls a bit short in comparison to other lagunita brews and lacks the signature scent that most of their hoppy beers have in fact its a bit of a turn off as its a bit pissy. The taste is good for an IPA but again lacks the hop mixture I am accustomed to. Bitterness is there but a bit muted a little dry but some sugar cane comes through at the end. Very citrusy with lemon rind and pearish qualities but no caramel sweetness. Overall good but I like maximus and sumpin sumpin much better.

12oz bottle poured into a Harpoon IPA kolsh-style pint glass.

Appearance - Large, loose barely off-white head with great retention and not much stick. Clear copper body.

Smell - Hoppy aroma with a balanced malty sweetness to it.

Taste - Medium to mild hoppiness. A bit of alcohol hidden under the brunt of it. Very mild sweetness well hidden under the surface which you almost don't notice, but works well at balancing the beer.

Mouthfeel - Refreshing. Easy going. Almost none of the typical astringent qualities you'd come to expect from the style.

Overall Drinkability - A great balanced, mild IPA. Might be a good gateway IPA to get people into the style, if they've had poor experiences with hoppier, more 'arrogant' IPAs. Refreshing and laid back. Though after a couple of these hop teases, you might get in the mood for something with a bit more of a kick.

A very pleasant IPA for hot summer days. Poured into a pilsner glass from the bottle, and it produced a one-finger thick head that reduced to lacing. It has a beautiful copper color and a pleasing citrusy aroma. Taste was bracing and bitter up front and smooth on the back end. I really enjoyed this beer. Compared to other IPAs I've had this summer I would rank it behind Bell's Two Hearted, above Heavy Seas and equal to 21st Amendment.

No "drink by" date.

Appearance: Brassy orange in color with a good deal of carbonation noticeable. Big airy and white head that takes a bit to settle, great lacing leftover.

Smell: Floral hops dominate but don't overwhelm, Lots of citrus as well. Once you get past the bitterness there's a great deal of juicy orange.

Taste: Bitterness is up front but again not overly aggressive. Once you get past the bitterness, the citrus takes over, very similar to the aroma. Some pleasant bitterness lingers but on the whole the finish is rather clean.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied and very lively.

Overall: A nice single IPA that doesn't crush your palate with hops. Particularly nice use of citrus.

Clear and orange with about two fingers of fluffy white head. Sticky pine and melon in the nose. The fruity melon is more powerful than the pine but it doesn't over shadow it. Bread and caramel malts back up the hops. A lot of malt upfront, more than I expected. Creamy. A lot of biscuit, lightly toasted and caramel instantly followed by fruity melon and grapefruit that finishes bitter with only subtle amount of that sticky pine present in the nose. A fruitier flavor than expected from the nose. Smooth and creamy body that finishes with a solid bite but doesn't cloy.

Clear straw-gold with a cream colored head which drops rapidly leaving spotty lace.

Scent is citrus, tangerine, tropical fruit. Also a sharp spicy almost onion-like note. Funky earthy notes.

I taste tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple. Touch of pine. A light bready malt base. Bitterness builds as I sip but never becomes intense.

Mouth is a coating medium

A pleasant ipa with some nice citrus and tropical fruit notes; not the raging hop monster i was anticipating. New Dogtown pale ale actually strikes me as more hop forward than this does.

From 07/04/11 notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

a - Pour a transparent orange color with one finger of frothy white head and moderate carbonation evident. Lots of lacing left on the glass.

s - Smells of citrus hops, tropical fruits, fruity malts, bananas, honey, and bready malts.

t - Tastes of bananas, citrus hops, tropical fruits, light pine hops, fruity malts, and a little alcohol. More bananas than the nose, very nice.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty creamy body.

o - Overall a really nice IPA; something I would certainly have again. Nice mouthfeel and I enjoyed the fruit in the taste, especially the banana.

copper color. good head retention.

smells strongly of grassy and floral hops.

tastes initially sweet and malty. maybe a little bit caramel...? tastes of grassy and piney hops. the bitterness is a little more pronounced than the sweetness in the finish.

this is a medium bodied beer with a soft finish, which allows the flavor to linger.

this is a good-ass ipa with a subtle complexity(which i reckon lies in the malt bill) that makes you want to drink more.

12 oz. bottle into pint.

This is certainly a high quality brew, but unfortunately, just probably not for me. I like my IPAs a bit more in the piney side, but this one blows me away with the grapefruitiness.

Will try again to see if my tastes change, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon.

A- Pours a clear amber coppery color with a thin finger of white head, which fades quickly but produces good lacing.

S- Lots and lots of hops and hop oils, pine and resin. Has some tropical citrus in there too. Malts are pretty nonexistent.

T- Hops dominate this beer but work very well with some nice light, slightly bready malts. Hops are juicy and citric, the pine and resin are there but aren't as obvious as in the nose. The hops aren't overpowering, pretty balanced overall.

M- Medium bodied with good carbonation, has a smooth feel and leaves a slightly juicy, thick feel on the palate. The feel is actually pretty nice and this beer is very drinkable and refreshing.

O- A solid IPA and another good offering from Lagunitas, this and Maximus are both definitely worth trying.

bottle to pint.

A: clear bronze, thin head.

S: Grapefruit, lemon and pine.

T: hint of malt, then all hops. Not overbearing.

M: Carbination is prickly on the tounge, nice oily finish.

O: My go to beer. Can find it on sale at any number of local markets, anytime for a dollar a beer. Just solid all around, always hits the spot.

12 oz bottle pours a stunningly clear, light copper color with a fluffy cap of off-white head. Retention is ok, but lacing superb.

Nose is classic Lagunitas citric hop aroma. Juicy, bright and mildly ganja-esque. Malts pretty much get the hell outta the way, but a mild grainy caramel aroma still manages to break through. Some tropical alcohol is there also.

Bright, sharp, crisp and refreshing all are good descriptors here. Hop flavor explodes on the palate and manages a unique impact that is rivaled by few hop-forward brewers out there today. Malts compliment, rather than interfere, with the hop profile of the beer. An impressive IPA, to say the least. While Lagunitas sometimes cranks out beers too similar in profile at times (for me at least), this blueprint is indeed pretty tasty and a fresh IPA from Petaluma will always be welcome in my fridge. They know their way around a hoppy beer.

On tap at Lagunitas

A: Golden with a nice head about a finger wide; which faded rather quickly.

S: Citrusy. Not overpowering.

T: Surprisingly mild. Had just had the Pale Ale before and that felt hoppier than this. Nice and citrusy but no real complexity.

M: Very refreshing considering that it is a bit syrupy. Nicely carbonated.

O: Lagunitas flagship beer is simply not my favorite from them. A totally serviceable IPA but not one I typically order.
