Pours reddish golden clear liquid with white foam head with almost no retention. Smells fruity, citrusy, flowery, fresh. Tastes very balanced bitterness with malt sweetness. More hops in the after taste. Feels low body with low carbonation. Overall a good IPA.

A gloriously balanced, highly quaffable IPA. It is truly luxurious on the palate and one sip begets another. Also, its James McMurtry's favorite beer and he's one of the best musicians and songwriters, period. So you should drink it.

Poured from 22 oz bottle to glass. Moderate hoppy scent with the usual west coast IPA pine/grassy undercurrent aroma. Colour is amber/yellow with light head. Taste like a typical American IPA. Not bad at all, but not special either. Light Mouthfeel goes down smooth. For the price I would have expected a little more bitter flavour and a little higher ABV. But it's still not bad.

On draft at the Abbey in Providence RI. Nice color and nose, but underwhelming with the overall taste and flavor profile. Nothing wrong, but just average for me. Might also have been that I was expecting more.

For all the hype I found this very disappointing, not nearly as bitter as I was led to believe, way too balanced, kind of like a middle of the road Democrat or centrist Republican -- neither here nor there.

Tried in a pint glass poured from a bottle.

Looks a bit light relative to the IPAs I'm used to in the PNW. It's well filtered, a light-to-mid yellow-orange with good carbonation. The head is a little high, maybe 6mm with a moderate pour -- off-white, ivory. Very lacey. Though it's lightly colored it's a nice looking beer.

The smell is also light for an IPA relative to what I'm used to. It's a bit floral and skunky with only a little bit of pine. Pleasant but not really outstanding or interesting.

The taste has some mild bitterness and the skunk in the smell comes through again. There isn't a lot of the complexity or interesting hop character that I've found in really great IPAs. The finish is 'flat' and a little bitter. Carbonation is a little high and overall body is just a little thin.

This isn't a bad beer but I don't see why I'd choose it over the great IPA options that we get in the PNW unless it was a really great deal and I needed a budget option, but it actually tends to be a little on the costly side.

Appearance: This beer has a clear dark golden color with a small-medium head. The head is composed of thick bubbles instead of the tiny ones that you see in a finer head. These larger constituent bubbles make for a nice texture and each bubble pops with a hint of the aroma which I’ll talk about next.

Smell: The smell is very nice, but is not very strong. I can pick up on the malty front and the mild hops at the back, but other than this you should rely on the taste to enjoy this beer.

Taste: The taste is great. If you don’t want a powerful IPA like a Double or Extra IPA for those lazy weekdays, then this is the beer for you. I personal enjoy this beer as is, but I wouldn’t mind a higher IBU or ABV content. The malts hit first with a nice toasty flavor and gives way to a delayed citrus laced hop.

Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is nice. It has enough carbonation to dance with the mild alcohol content and there is a lingering resin-like coating on the tongue after a sip. This has a smooth feel to it also.

Overall: I would say this is a great beer by Lagunitas, but not as awesome as their Lil’ Sumpin’ Sumpin’ variety. This Lagunitas IPA is a nice go-to beer if you can’t find anything stronger or more robust. I found the only negative thing about this beer to be a lack of complexity. I usually look for a well-timed release of a variety of flavors each as strong as the last, but this one is sort of monotonic. Not bad, but just not excellent.

This is almost what I would call a "light" IPA. The flavor is there but it seems like you have to work to get at it. The color is a very light orange, almost like a Pilsner. The smell has a light citrus note with a little warm bread in there. The flavor is mild and fleeting although still fairly good. Easy to drink. It's not very complex though which for this style might be an issue. I dunno. There are better IPAs out there for sure but this one would work for a person that wants a very light IPA. I wouldn't buy it again.

I had it on tap. As someone stated earlier, it's a bit more watery for ipa's I'm used to. The color is a little lighter than most ipa's. I would pass on this if most other ipa's are available on tap. Not the biggest fan

Really enjoyed this easy-drinking beer. The person who said this tastes like a sweaty snatch needs to stop feasting on sweaty snatches because it's affecting his tastebuds.

Orange body. Orange like hop aroma. Has that signature Lagunitas scent. Hop forward taste, a bit watery, almost like a pale ale. Not that bitter. Again, a slightly watery feel, not the best. Overall, I'd be happy to see this on tap, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Not bad. Nice amount of bitterness, easy biscuity finish. I can drink a six of these on a nice summer's night. Nothing that I would kill over, but definitely solid.

This is a fantastic "starter" IPA. Incredibly drinkable, I can't imagine anyone not liking this beer. Everything in balance, not sharp or bitter at all, and not overly citrusy. If you have a friend who is new to craft beers, serve him this beer.

355ml bottle poured into a chalice glass

Look: Dark honey yellow with a bubbly, slightly off-white head. Considerable retention and significant lacing.

Smell: The hops hit you pretty much the moment the cap comes off the bottle - there's the whole gamut of smells here: pine resin, floral aromas, cut grass and a big heaping helping of citrus (grapefruit and orange predominate) and a side-order of pineapple. Malt? Not much that I could determine.

Taste: Oddly enough, this is pretty hop-forward although there's a massive range of flavours vying for attention here - fairly floral and grassy to begin with, with the citrus and tropical fruit flavours following hot on their heels. Spicy flavours and hop bitterness to finish. There's a hell of a lot going on here.

Feel: Dry, bitter and slightly fizzy - not too heavy for something that's 6%+. The flavour profile is rather special.

Overall: In terms of UK availability, Lagunitas is one of the American breweries that is most likely to find some kind of representation outside of your typical craft-oriented bottle shop. If you're after a good, solid IPA then this would make a good go-to brew - perhaps not as 'homicidally hoppy' as the bottle blurb would have you believe, but definitely worth it for the sheer variety of the flavour palate. I look forward to trying more of the Lagunitas output.

Wow, this is one of those beers that escaped my reviews for forever, for whatever reason, probably was lost in one of the BA crashes, then realized I didn't have a review recently, so decided to get it done.

Tap at tavern in the square in Northboro.

Nice creamy thick 1/2 finger head fades slowly, crystal clear honey tan color.

Nose brings nice hops, fruity and floral, generic fruit, with some tropical notes and faint citrus, floral and slight gassy hops as well, mild sweet base malt.

Taste brings bright hops, floral and fruity again as well as grassy, generic hop fruitiness with light citrus pith and little rind, faint grapefruit pith and juicy Clementine like citrus fruit, nice floral grassy hop character, with fair bitterness that ramps as it goes. Nice base malt to balance at first, then dries on the finish and gets quite bitter, with lingering bitter grassy floral hops and touch spicy.

Mouth is med bod, nice carb.

Overall there is a reason this beer is a staple ipa, great balance with nice bitter finish, great overall hop profile that doesn't go crazy, very enjoyable and tasty.

Poured a clear copper color with a 4F head in a Spiegelgau glass.

Excellent aroma: pineapple-citrus.Most IPAs don't have a good pineapple/other citrus aroma. Quite nice.

Very carbonated mouth feel.

Taste: good citrus, but a bit overpowered by the excellent nutty, earthy, very hoppy finish.

overall: an excellent IPA with a lot of complexity usually found in higher ABV beers.

Poured into a plastic cup at a sampling at Hops and Habanas grand opening and soon afterwards into a growler.

A: A clear burnt orange with half finger white head with staying power. Thick lacing around my 3 ounce pour.

S: Grapefruit takes center stage with piney hops and a mild malt presence.

T: A very quaffable IPA with medium bitterness. Piney hops do a tango with grapefruit and other citrus notes. Terrific balance with bready malts. Easy to drink, so I ordered a growler.

M: Light to medium with medium carbonation.

O: I see why this one is so popular. Very sessionable. Nice doggie.

12oz bottle, Julian dated at 355 of 2014, poured into a Lagunitas mason jar.

The beer pours a clear copper orange color, a handful of bubbles slowly rise to the top of the glass where a nice, soapy finger of white head rests, showcasing nice retention and yielding large swatches of soapy lace behind. The aroma is pleasant, bitter piney hops, lightly floral with some nice tropical fruits and citrus rind that gets nice support from a bready but mild malt profile. The flavors echo that of the aroma, earthy and lightly bitter piney hops, floral yet grassy hop spice, pineapple sweetness with grapefruit peel and citrusy bitterness and the mildly bready malt is very tame, balanced well. The mouthfeel is spot on, crisp, carbonated and very lively, coats decently well and finishes with a touch of dryness.

Verdict: A very nice IPA from Lagunitas and when fresh, should definitely be a stand by choice. It is quenchable and quite refreshing without being overly bitter and punishing on the palate, definitely one of the better examples of a low IBU but distinctly west coast IPA.

Various times consumed in that IPA glass, sometimes in a mug but most of the time in a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy dark orange color running close to brown.
A light half fingered white foamy head appears and dissipates within a good minute.
Light lacing trickles but yet tries to cling.
The smell had a nice sweet citrus and somewhat bitter hops in a light sort of way.
The taste followed the aroma and carried a nice super bittersweet conglomeration of citrus/slight grapefruit. The aftertaste recedes quickly from the grapefruitiness to the finish.
The mouthfeel had a nice big bittersweet harshness rolling over my tongue to lead to a light to medium body. Good carbonation for the style and for me.
Overall, for the style this one hits well. Don't listen to the haters, drink up!

This IPA suffers from "beery beer syndrome". It's got citrus and hops upfront, but they're light and don't have enough strength or depth to hold the flavor throughout the entire development. This gives you a beer that only has good flavor has soon as you swallow but immediately fades into a basic beer taste like Corona or the like. Not nasty, but not good. Would be a good starter IPA for those new to the style or craft beer in general, but won't impress anyone with any kind of drinking experience.
