Ratebeer rating 3000. This is a very special beer for me, and not because of the rating milestone. This is a gift from my late wife. She, even in her final stages of cancer, stopped at a beer store with her mom in an effort to find a beer I hadn't rated.

Here's to the kindest, most beautiful woman I have ever known.
Cheers baby.

Golden body with a thin white collar. Pils malt and honey sweetness. Light bodied and easy drinking.

A bittersweet moment drinking this beer. Cheers to all!

Maharaja Premiun Indian Pilsner
330 ML brown glass bottle, "MFD. 03/14 BATCH NO. 238"
$1.99 @ Cost Plus World Market, Arlington, VA

Maharaja is a fairly average looking "Euro" pils with average head retention and lacing. The aroma is surprisingly fruity and lacking in hops for a "Pilsner". The flavor offers the same fruitiness, which is quite Apple like, amidst a thin, sweetish, and moderately grainy maltiness. The bitterness is limited and it's not particularly balanced (especially as a "Pilsner"), leaving residual malt and fruitiness to linger in the finish. A touch of astringency and some oxidation (at least in my sample) damage it even further.

L: Brilliant gold with a thin white foam collar that nevertheless produces fine lace.
S: Almost a fresh laundry blended with Indian spice on the nose.
T: Some light grains, light apple, a hint of wet cardboard. Stays sweet over most off the palate with a light drying on the finish. Has a little grainy aftertaste with a hint of fruit.
F: Light body, medium high carbonation.
O: If the temperature topped 100 and I had a plate of biryani, I would drink an ice cold bottle of this. Under normal circumstances, probably not.

Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of corn, malts. Taste is corn, apples, some malts, a bit of an unusual aftertaste. Feels light in the mouth and overall, not terrible, but no desire for another one.

Nobody's noting Pilsners for their complexity and this one's not going to change that, but it is still a light, crisp and refreshing beer. Nose was slightly estery with that typical lager smell (yeast?), not much else there, pretty boring. It was a bright golden color with a white head and very easy drinking. Taste was also pretty bland, nothing really notable here, hops are very much irrelevant. All in all it's a decent Pilsner, refreshing, but ultimately boring.

12oz bottle batch 12/12

look is a clear straw color, some odd floaties, and a talk frail head that fades to a ring. smell is slightly sweet, corny, grainy. light, crisp, with a husky corniness and slight english hopping. finish is surprisingly malty, but otherwise this drinks like an exceptionally clean and tasty american adjunct.

good everyday drinkin' stuff.... from India

Maharaja Premium India Pilsner has a medium, foamy head, a clear, yellow-golden appearance, some bubble steams, and a bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, full, and pungent barley malt, biscuit, grass, and bread dough. Taste is of bready malt, charcoal, grass, sourness, a bit of green apple, and a faint hop bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Maharaja Premium India Pilsner finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and mild. Overall, this is a good beer, and it’s worth a try.

I found this brew pretty thin and overall rather bland. Like the rest of brews from India, this one was rather sweet. It is definitely something I could easily drink on a hot day though. Would be curious to try a more robust version with a lot of depth if it ever came out.

Bottled 8/2011.

Pours a crystal clear yellow with a fizzy tan head that settles to wisps of lace on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, honey, and some grass and hay aromas. There is a slight skunky aroma that is present too. Taste is of malt, grain, honey, and some grape juice flavors. There is a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer that is drinkable and not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Poured from about an inch above the glass gave this clear straw golden colored beer a white head about an inch high.
The small white head quickly die to a thinning lacing.

Sour citrus and yeast like aroma with lemon being the most prominent.

Dryish light sour citrus with a lemon peel and corn syrup likeness being more so in the forefront of the taste.

A light dry aftertaste that holds some of the sourness of the taste.

I think I'll have to pass on any more of these, just really nothing there that I like about beer, except maybe the alcohol content.

A: Pours a crystal clear pale golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy white head that reduces to a patch of extremely thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of musty malts, corn adjunct malts, and some stronger notes of apple/apple cider. There is also a strange hint of wax/paraffin.

T: Flavors of pale malts, corn adjunct malts, and some lighter notes of apple. Not too sweet but there is very little bitterness in the taste either.

M: Light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Crisp.

O: Refreshing and easy to drink - you can see how this beer would be popular with the hot climate in India and the spicy cuisine). Sessionable with good balance in the flavor.

A: The beer is clear golden yellow in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high white head that died down but consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: There are light aromas of apples in the nose along with some musty hints of corn.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell, except that it has a little less apples and a little more adjunct malts.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is easy to drink but lacks the malty aromas and smells of a true pilsener.

Appearance: Murky gold in color with no head or lacing.

Smell: Mostly molasses. Not noticing much else beyond the molasses.

Taste: Very sweet molasses but rather light in flavor overall. Strange sort of dusty flavor.

Mouthfeel: Light body and light carbonation.

Overall: Could have just been an old bottle but I can't say that I enjoyed this beer.

A: Pale straw color, with very little head and no appreciable lacing.

S: Mild grassy malt, with faint citrus.

T: Sweet and grassy malt, but it tastes watered down. Medium hops bitterness.

M: Average carbonation, no alcohol burn. Semi-crisp, but not enough.

O: Pilsners are rarely heavy on flavor, but this one frankly tasted watered down. It wasn't terrible, but I found myself drinking it only to wash down food, certainly not for taste. Nothing there to bring me back for more.

Batch No 203 US

A: Very slightly cloudy yellow. A small bit of wafty thin head that sticks to the side of the glass in thick foamy walls.

S: Cardboard, corn, raisins - all with sweet undertones.

T: Sour, malt, bitter throat. Not much else. It's just a little thin and dirty tasting. I can't say I'm much of a fan.

M: Sudsy, wet, thin.

O: Quite unpleasant overall. I think I would rather grab a Kingfisher.

Golden in color. Head was gone before I even put the bottle opener away. Smell is cereal grain with no real hop presence. I was surprised by the freshness, considering how long it sat in my house before I decided to drink it (a perfect example of the benefits of using brown bottles). Not at all over the top sweet, but about as balanced as you can get for an adjunct pilsener. Carbonation is adequate. I classify this in my personal sub-category of "lawn mowing pilsener" - albeit a good LMP (as opposed to what I call an "old world pilsener"). I could see this being great for washing down a plate of samosas. I wouldn't turn one of these down.

11-oz bottle into weizen glass

A - 1 finger of quickly-fading head over a clear yellow body; lots of carbonation

S - corn; grassy/spicy hops

T - corn and grass with a spicy twang; bitter finish; not very good

M - light/medium-bodied with high carbonation; the highlight of this brew

O - If you find yourself staring at a shelf of beer in the liquor store and, like me, you think to yourself, "I've never had an import from India--maybe I'll give this a try," learn from my mistake and save your $2 for something more palatable.

S: smelled of corn and malt, slightly fruity as well.

A: 11 oz bottle. sounded like there was an alka seltzer in my beer, but oddly little to no head, very light in cool, like watered down ginger ale.

S: slight corn and fruit aroma, some malt.

T/M: served cold had light body. very smooth, refreshing but lacked other good qualities.

D: Alcohol was well hidden, odd sweetness in the aftertaste, not bad, but wouldn't buy a case.

A - Clear light straw with almost no head.

S - Malty and a touch sweet. That's about it.

T - Sweet, some malts going on and slightly tinny.

M - Thin, highly carbonated and a touch bitter in the aftertaste.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't imagine drinking this again unless I was actually in India and wanted to get some local beer drinking on.

Poured from a single-serving bottle into a wine glass for the hell of it.

Appearance: Straw-to-gold color (on the lighter side), with a very airy head which leaves moderate lacing as it recedes slowly.

Smell: Not all that bad. Smells a touch corny, but plenty of flowery-citrus underneath the corn. The good outweighs the bad here.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Lots of flavor here! The citrus is much more prevalent in the taste than in the nose. Moderate hop bitterness bites through the mellow carbonation. Lots of hops after the citrus wears off. A touch oily in the aftertaste.

Drinkability: Slightly better than average. I'd opt for this over most macro-brewed pilses, but give me an IPA or a stout any day in its place.

Not too shabby. Not a *huge* pilsner fan, but this one is easily better than the American macros.

A: Pours clear yellow with small effervescent bubbles. half a finger of white head dissipates pretty quickly and leaves a very thin sheen of resilient foam on the top.

S: Strong yeast sourness, almost like injera bread. Very small bit of sweet malts detectable underneath.

T/M: Very watery yeast flavor leads to some adjunct malts and detectable hop bitterness at the end. Relatively high carbonation, but it is not exactly crisp; I'd say "biting" is the more appropriate term.

D: Very run-of-the-mill lager; good for quenching thirst, bad for much else.

Pale yellow, with a quickly dissipating head. Very bubbly.

Very faint corn scent, with no musty or skunky scents.

Clean and light tasting, with every typical flavor muted and made subtle. There's nothing terribly prominent, but a sweet tartness is present throughout. It's not unpalatable, but there's just really no taste.

No alcoholic burn. Finishes crisp with no lingering after textures.

Very drinkable if only for the fact that it's something that can be knocked back while watching TV. It's nothing spectacular and it doesn't challenge the palate. Meh. Sure kills the burn of a vindaloo, though!

The 33 cl bottle of Maharja Premium India Pilsner poured crystal clear, a pale golden brew with a ring of white fading foam. The nose consists of contributions from pale malt and grassy bitterness. This beer has a light body. This beer reminds me of a mass produced Euro style lager and one that isn't that bad. Malt is followed by a touch of bitterness. The carbonation bites the palate a bit.

This isn't a bad beer. It could use a little bit more flavor and some refinement, but I enjoyed the bottle I had.

A - Pale golden color with a two-finger head which quickly reduces, plenty of carbonation

S - slight corn smell

T - Sweet and light up front, slightly malty, crisp finish

M - Very light and smooth

D - Very easy to drink, it's lightness and crispness would lend itself nicely to drinking on a hot day. I will try this again.
