Four Season Liquors - Morris, IL

Local Hero is pure gold, clean and raw. The clarity is nearly unmatched, I can read a book through the body. Carbonation rises in clusters to the bone white foam. The head grows to a finger in height and stays put while leaving thin, sticky lace in it's wake. This is how an IPA should look, in my world at least.

This beer simply reeks of hoppiness. Big cantaloupe and tropical notes can be perceived from a foot away. Apricot and mango rule the roost while pineapple plays second fiddle. Bitter greens add yet another layer of hop complexity. A softly sugary malt base lays the foundation and is reminiscent of wafers. Mouthwatering, yes.

The flavor is as ridiculously vibrant as the nose suggested. Sweet ripe cantaloupe is met with perfectly ripe pineapple up front. Mango and apricot, both fresh and dried, come along mid-palate. The bitter greens appear on the backend to compliment the veritable fruit salad in my glass. The malt base again is pale, allowing the hops to do their thing. Wafers are noticeable again, though. Dry and biscuity.

Mouthfeel, nailed! You can't ask for much more in this department out of an IPA. The body is soft and moderate in weight but with an active carbonation that lightens it up overall. There's a welcomed plushness. The bitterness is by no means intense but it does grow to moderate overtime and a drying finish intensifies that. This could be drank by the gallon.

Local Hero is another gem from the fine folks at RevBrew. Revolution knows how to utilize hops, that's fact. This beer is all at once juicy, dry, and incredibly easy to drink. I wanted to mention that this is one of their best beers but pretty much whatever I'm drinking from them at any given time I think the same.

Had a pint at the brewpub and brought home a growler. Love the brewery, love the hero series, love the local concept. Really wanted this one to be great, but it just didn't do it for me. Nose and initial taste was nice, featuring the familiar fresh, complex, clean, Revolution hop profile. But the finish was off -- I'd call it grassy or weedy or straw.

On tap at the brewery, quick review from written notes.

Pale bright gold and very clear and sharp like a helles lager. Compact head of white foam, drippy arcs of sudsy lacing stick to the glass. Thin veil on the surface.

Softly sweet aroma of juicy citrus.

Bittersweet & hoppy, light flavor of juicyfruit gum and grapefruit pith. Light bodied and subtle, traces of toasted kernels, with a dry, lingering bitter aftertaste. Supple feel and very drinkable. A nice local wet hop IPA that i'll definitely drink again when the opportunity arises.

A-Clear yellow orange, one finger head that leaves some lacing.

S-Good deal of bread/wheat to start and some citrus hops.

T-Once again starts with bread and wheat and toast. Ends with citrus and slight bitterness. But not enough to fully balance the beer out.

M-Medium to light in body with nice carbonation and a crisp dry finish.
