Poured into my tulip. Received in trade from Kevinpitts. Thanks much Kevin.
A - Deep brown with a quarter inch of clingy tan head that stuck around and left some lacing down the glass.
S - Light bourbon smell with a touch of blueberry. Light aroma period.
T - Blueberry! and lots of it. Bourbon flavor is here as well but you don’t get a lot of it at all. The blueberry mixes well and blunts the bourbon flavor. Nice job. Touches of vanilla, oak, coffee and chocolate.
M – Medium bodied with good carbonation. Slightly astringent on the palate.
O – Another winner from Revolution. I enjoyed the brew a great deal and my wife loved it. It has a almost dessert like quality for me. I don’t taste the alcohol at all and love the blueberry preserve like quality of this brew.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Big khaki head. Thick collar. Good retention.

Smell - Some blueberry comes through. Lots of caramel. Kinda oaky.

Taste - I get a little bit of barrel here. Blueberry is kinda tart. Very strong blueberry. Roasted malt.

Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation. Medium body.

Overall - I don't love the acidity of the blueberries. It's a little strong for me.

Two drafts at the brewery, served in a snifter.
Brownish black in the glass, plenty of delicate lacing around the edges, and a gentle skim across the surface. Dark and opaque.

Smells like blueberries in a big way. Mellow dry roast as well.

Unmistakeable taste of blueberries and dry chocolate. Fruit forward, dry and roasty, no weird tartness from the fruit. Very balanced with some minor barrel tannin, but it seems like a second use barrel possibly, as things are pretty mellow and balanced. Smooth feel, ample fruit and roasty Porter aspects. Overall something I could continue drinking all night.

On tap at EBF in Boston, MA. Barrel aged porter with blueberries, here we go.

This one pours a dark black, with a very small head, and no lacing.

This one smells very blueberry forward, with a good amount of chocolate and bourbon as well.

I''m really happy with how much the blueberry is emphasized here. Super jammy, pretty sweet, with some mild tartness, and tons of creamy dark chocolate, some vanilla, a good helping of bourbon, and a touch of oak. Delicious.

This is medium bodied, not quite as thick as I would've hoped, with a very creamy mouthfeel. The carbonation is fairly low.

This is another great beer from Revolution. They really know how to barrel-age their beers.

Way too sweet and didn't work for me. Couldn't stomach the sample I was given.

One of a large number of samples I had at the Extreme Beer Fest in Boston 3/21/32014. Needs more body to stand up to the blueberry.

Pours a deep brown with some light passage at the edges. Very generous carbonation on first pour, decent retention. The nose is oak forward with some heavy chocolate. This is followed by blueberry flesh. The blueberry does not stand out on the aroma, but is definitely mixed in with the oak and cocoa notes. The flavor is where the blueberry takes off. Chocolatey Eugene goodness up front followed by a by bright blueberry note. The blueberry is accentuated by the bourbon character which brings some vanilla. The finish is mildly astringent from the barrel. Overall, this is a fun Eugene variant, although the porter base just does not seem sturdy enough for the barrel aging action.

I really enjoyed this beer. Usually with dark beers I can only take small sips at a time, but I find the Blue Gene Porter to be smooth. It has a nice hint of sourness from the blueberries. I think it smells and tastes fresh!

Thanks to Oneinchaway for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, bourbon, blueberry, and slight wood aromas. Taste is much the same with slightly tart cocoa powder, chocolate covered blueberry, and slight bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice use of blueberry that balances well with the barrel aged characteristics.

Serving type: bottle.

On tap at Revolution. Served in a 5oz glass right after having Eugene, Mean Gene and Bean Gene, today 12/18/2013.

Looks just like the others. Dark black body, minimal mocha head with minimal retention. Some lacing. Looks more like Bean than Mean in terms of the head and it's retention.

Smells.. Pretty boring? I really do not smell much. No blueberries, no bourbon, not much. It's pretty minimal in terms of intensity even as it warms up. It gets a freshly squeezed blueberry scent to it when it warms up, but it's still not all that great compared to the flavor profile.

Phenomenal. The blueberries come out in force here. It's more berry forward than Backyard Rye is, yet still not so jammy that it's undrinkable. It's very clean, smooth and complemented by the chocolate and coffee base beer as well as a bit of barrel vanilla. I think the bourbon could come out a little more to make this more complex and interesting, but as it is, this is excellent. Basically vanilla-chocolate covered blueberries.

Mouthfeel is still the thinner medium body with decent carbonation, not that high but about right for the style given it is BA. Really a very nice chocolate covered blueberry type of flavor on the back end. Awesome.

I really enjoyed this the most out of the base and Mean and Bean Gene beers I've had at the brewpub today. Great blueberry flavor that isn't too jammy. No heat, easy to drink. They should bottle this.

Overly carbonated with hint of blueberry! Not impressed! Or maybe just not a fan of the porter!

The beer has a nice blueberry aroma. The nose is a bit medicinal and the mouth feel is rather light.

The taste is decent, a little acidic. I wish it had chocolate to smooth it out. Blue Gene porter is nothing all that special. At 22 bucks a bomber, I'm going to leave this on the shelf in the future. Cheers!

Pours black in color with a thin light tan colored head. Smell has bright fruit aromas of blue berry and fig upfront with light chocolate malt in he end. Taste follows the nose with fresh blueberry flavor dominating the front end and semi sweet chocolate malt caramel and hints of bourbon and vanilla. Dry oak barrel finishes. Mouthfeel is medium in body with moderate to light amounts at carbonation.
