My neighbor picked up this gem at the brewery. The beer poured a clear orange with white head that is not leaving much of a lace. The scent is heavily! There is orange peel, slight pine and a hint of spice. The taste is mostly citrus and bitter with a sweet malt balance. The m outhfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a great beer.

Appearance is bright yellow/orange that pours a fuzzy and very alive pure white head.

Smells of sweet cantaloupe, definite grapefruit, and other tropical zest, oh how I love those wonderful Citra hops!

Taste is an explosion of Citra hops! Grapefruit, cantaloupe, and mango are all very well pronounced and delicious!

Mouthfeel is a full on Citra bomb!

Overall one damn great beer from a damn great brewery! Would love this year round though ;)

Thanks Thomas for this one!
Multiple glasses at the brewery, served in a tulip, review from notes.

Bright saturated orange, glassy reflective clarity, a plume of slow rising carbonation rises from the center of the glass. Compact head of white foam, spotty irregular lacing.

Ultra pungent at first, tropical mango and papaya, sweet candied orange and tangerine, sticky hop resin. This fades after awhile, but the initial blast is so heady and intoxicating. Later there's a more mild floral and pale malt undercurrent that surfaces.

Taste is firmly bitter with some juicy tangerine sweetness, and traces of the tropical aroma return briefly at first, segueing into alpha acid bitterness and pale malt breadiness. Body is medium, slightly sticky, could be a touch lighter, but that didn't stop me from having several easily. Lightly bitter green dandelion and dried mango in the aftertaste.

Great stuff, easily my favorite of the Hero series.

Hate Chicago but I really like this beer. Basic two row malt with slight backbone, could use more aroma.

Bomber bottled approx. 2 weeks prior to drinking.

Appearance: Bright gold, clear until last 1/4 of bottle, then slightly hazy. No head to speak of, no lacing.

Smell: Citra, not much else. A touch of pale malts. I get orange marmalade, slightly subdued compared to other big Citra beers (ZD, pseudoSue).

Taste: Follows the nose at first. Like taking a bite of toast with orange marmalade- I don't like to repeat myself too many times in reviews, but that characteristic is all over this beer. The initial sweetness quickly gives way, though. I fully expected this beer to get a bit deeper in flavor (roll into some peachy/apricot fullness) but it never really did. I wonder if the Red Wheat has anything to do with this? It definitely seems to soften the beer overall, more on that in mouthfeel. The aftertaste really gets me, though, and not in a good way. A bit vegetal- stops short of the onion flavor I get from some hops, but not by much. If I could rate the first half of the taste, it'd be around a 4, but the finish really knocks it down.

Mouthfeel: A bit thicker than other 7.5-8% IPA's, but I don't think the malt bill could withstand more hopping to knock it up into IIPA territory. A sticky beer, so rinse your glass and brush your teeth before you go to bed.

Overall: My first beer from Revolution. Not surprised by the over-abundance of Citra in this beer, given the name. I was surprised by the addition of red wheat and Belgian aromatic malts, and the English yeast gives is a bit of a British IPA spin with an All-American hop. Not sure those malts/yeast work well without some baser "British" bittering hops?

Golden pour with a short creamy white head. The aroma is watermelon, with citrus rind. I find this to be an extremely smooth IPA with a little breadiness that holds up the backbone. This beer is where Revolution really excels, with a crisp cleanness here that allows the tropical notes of the Citra hops to shine through. Everything here falls into place well. The bitterness is pleasing but never takes over. If you find this in season then do not sit on it.

On tap at the World of Beers in C-Bus, OH. Nice golden amber color with no visible head when the pint reached our table. BIG fruity/citrusy hops on the nose... very bright, very nice nose. I use some Citra in my homebrewing, and this was definitely chock full of Citra. Bitter blast up front (very refreshing), with nice citrus flavors and a really clean finish. The was a big piney note on the mid-palate. Really nice and fresh. Medium body on this IPA, and just a bit of an oily feeling on the tongue. I was very happy with Anti-Hero, and Citra Hero did not disappoint. I look forward to trying more Revolution.

Served in a becher at Beelow's.

I've got some hours to kill, so let's jump in to a Hero I haven't had yet, eh? This stuff pours a mostly clear sunset orange-brass topped by a finger of cream foam. The nose comprises grapefruit zest, mild greens, lemon rind, light lime peel, very light flowers, very light pineapple, light biscuit, and a hint of leek in the background. The taste brings in more of the same, with a bit more greens, a stronger (though still background-dwelling) leek factor, an injection of grass, and a touch of passion fruit. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, an expectedly solid IPA, one that showcases the Citra hops pretty nicely.

A - Bomber dated Aug 4 14 into DFH IPA glass. 1 finger white head dissipated at a decent rate. Beer is clear and golden with noticeable bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass

S - lotsa citrus! Grapefruit, mango, some pine

T - follows the nose closely. Sweetness balanced with a good hoppye bite on the finish.

M - good carbonation and medium body. A little oily

O - another great IPA from Revolution in the Hero series. I missed this one the first time around but glad i scored one the second bottling.

A beautiful golden beer with a light frothy head that disappears quickly. The scent of course is citrusy but on the sweeter side of the citrus spectrum - peach, mango maybe. The taste is similar but with a rather crisp mouthfeel. The citrus qualities seem balanced by a slight spiciness. This is a great IPA and without a doubt the best IPA I've tried from Revolution. I'll be drinking this again.

Bottled on: 23 June 2014, 2 weeks old

Appearance: Bright and light with a slight haze as it settles, very little head

Smell: Huge citrus quality's with a little else

Taste: Follows nose, big tropical fruit flavors "juicy" if you will, not astringent or abrasive, very easy drinker

Mouth feel: Slight carbonation, smooth

Overall: I'm a huge citra fan so this is right up my alley, big bright ripe citrus fruits all around

Pours a clear gold with a small amount of head. The nose is floral with moderate levels of tropical fruit, mango, and peaches. Some malt and grassy notes come through at the end. The taste has moderate bitterness, considerable fruitiness, and a clean finish. I find this particular iteration of the Hero series to be a little more bland than the regular Anti-Hero and less complexity. The citra hop is featured and there, but doesn't present with the same brightness that other citra hopped brews do. Mouthfeel is moderately to highly carbonated with medium body. Overall, this is a good brew. I was a little disappointed because I was hoping for a home run on this one. Nonetheless, this is a tasty brew and worth a try.

Appearance: Arrives with a clear amber color and a frothy head that leaves much lacing

Smell: Bursts with tropical fruit aromatics; grapefruit, papaya, mango and hints of pineapple and lime

Taste: Juicy flavors forward with hardly any interference from the malt; all of the tones in the aroma tease the tastebuds; the finish is slightly sweet and a little boozy

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: After a long day of travel caused by flight cancellations and delays, welcome to Chicago; a great beer to relax with

650ml bottle, no bottling date. Poured into an unlabeled snifter 7/25/2014.

A- Slightly cloudy burnt orange body. One finger white head. Fine retention, not much lacing.

S- Grapefruit and pineapple mixed in with caramel and bread. Almost simplistic in its description, but this is done very well in terms of the balance between the fruit and bread aromas, with both camps being quite strong here.

F- Pineapple and mango in the front, with a slightly grassy but sweet caramel and biscuit notes in the middle, finishing off with a nice slightly tart grapefruit bite and bitterness. Very well-executed, tasty stuff.

M- A notch below medium body; not lacking in flavour but does feel a bit thin than I'd like; not as sticky as I'd expect from a 7.5% IPA; in fact it feels a bit thinner than some APAs. Dry, refreshing finish that is slightly overwhelmed by the bitterness on the backend, but not enough to be a major drawback.

O- Very nice citra IPA, well-executed in terms of balancing the aromatic hops and the sweet malt base. It's outstanding in all facets and I would recommend it if it's found on the shelf. Although I'd certainly like it if it came in cans, but Anti-Hero fulfills that niche fairly well enough!

22oz Bomber
Binny's - Willowbrook

A touch of haze runs through the polished golden body of Citra Hero. A handful of copper highlights flash here and there while carbonation of all shapes and sizes burst up to the surface. The head is white but a little dirty and shallow in height leaving a thin cap along the surface. History lines are left after each drink.

Surprise, surprise! The nose is chock full o' Citra. Big papaya, even bigger mango, and biggest of all....pineapple. A squeeze of peach, a squeeze of tangerine, they all play their part. The malt base is pale enough, biscuity mostly, to let those glorious hops shine. Candied orange peel reaches out as it warms, a little lime zest even. It's bright, citric, and ready to be drank.

Tropicals collide in a burst of flat out juiciness. Pineapple pings off mango pings off papaya. Tangerine comes in spades, one of my favorite aspects of Citra. Again, that orange peel comes around with a touch of sweetness. The malts are pale, crackery and a little biscuity. What can I say besides delicious? Nothing, that's what!

The weight hovers around the middle of the spectrum while the carbonation adds an incredible silkiness. The feel is all at once soft and dry. The swallow dries up quickly leaving behind a mild bitterness. If you told me this beer was 5.5% I would believe that. If you told me 7.5% I would call you a liar. It's dangerous.

Well, RevBrew managed to knock another out of the park. Can they do any wrong? While Citra Hero isn't my favorite of the bunch (Crystal Hero) it is up there pretty damn close. It's juicy, ripe, dry, and drinking like a champ. Get you some!

Medium orange hazy body with a minimal head. Can totally smell the citra hops, but oddly also get dill pickle too. Big citra hop taste, big malt flavor. It’s really good. Bigger than PseudoSue or ZD. Tasty though.

My friend told me to try the Citra Hero because upon a recent trip out to 3Floyds the Zombie Dust was sold out. Upon trying the Citra Hero I found that my friend's recommendation didn't give it the proper justice. This was a great beer on its own and didn't need to merely be a replacement for a similar beer that I didn't get to try. Really beautiful notes of Citra aroma and a great pallet presence. I really enjoyed the 7.5% ABV as well. Although for sessionability they might want to knock that down a bit. Overall a beautiful beer that I hope gets added to the regular brewing schedule.

22oz bomber poured into a snifter.

Appearence is golden orange with slight carbonation.

Smell is grapefruit, orange, lemon with a hint of lilac infused honey.

Taste is a magical! Citrus, mango, honey, sweet taste. Great mouthfeel. Goes down well for 7.5% abv.

Overall, one of the best IPA/APA I ever had. It really reminded me of Permanent Funeral. I guess we can call it Permanent Funeral Light but with all the flavor and Hops! Definately will be happy with this one.

Bomber > Tulip Glass

A - Really nice looking clear gold with a finger of fizzy white head, medium lacing.
S - Good aroma, big huge citrus zest, pine, grass, nice dankness, lively floral tones, really nice.
T - Taste is a let down, lots of bite, a lot of malt sweetness, which pulls away from the citra hop majorly. You get the citra notes, but they're so subdued.
M - Chewy, bitter, a little tart, thicker body.
O - Excellent aroma, OK on the flavor, which is sad cause I like this series a lot.
