A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

Always a fan of porters and the 6.8% ABV doesn't hurt for this one.

Initial aromas of raisin and hops. Got a lot of alcohol up front to begin with then mellowed after warming.

Good balance of malts with low hop bitterness. Nothing stood out as too impressive with this beer but certainly holds up with most porters I've had.

Certainly will give this a go again, especially if it's on tap.

Poured from a can into a hand-made pint glass.

A: Pours a very dark brown with a substantial, sticky, caramel colored head that lingers.

S: Smells of molasses, biscuit, coffee and raisin.

T: I taste coffee up front with a sweetness following. I might even describe it as fruity.

M: Goes down smooth with a nice amount of carbonation.

O: Overall, a delicious beer. Drinks very smoothly and has a variety of flavors which are all nicely balances. A great choice for anyone into porters.
