I had this beer three times on tap, once at the brewery and twice at the brewpub before deciding to review. I really wanted to like it but I get the same results. It just seems to be too thin to be a porter of the style like an Edmund Fitzgerald or a Black Butte.

A - Pours a dark brown with a decent head. Lacing isn't bad but didn't seem to last long in my glass.

S - Oak, caramel and cocoa is what I take away from this

T- I can't get into it, it just feels like someone added too much water to the beer and it does not have a deep satisfying flavor.

M- Thin, easy to go down but not what I expected.

This beer really misses the mark in overall taste and mouthfeel for me. It just does not have the body and flavor I expect as it seems watered down. Thus the low scores for taste and mouthfeel.

Can poured into a pint glass.

Appearance- dark, dark brown. No light was shining through this glass. It poured at least a 2 & 1/2 finger tax head. Decent lacing.

Aroma- The coffee notes hit me right way followed by milk chocolate. Roasted malts and sweet molasses were also present. As it warmed, I could detect a bit of smokiness to it as well.

Taste- It tasted very similar to how it smelled. The roasted malts and sweetness from the chocolate were balanced by the bitterness from the coffee. I could taste some raisin and maybe a bit of piney hops on the back note, but it was more of a whisper.

Mouthfeel- Medium with a medium to almost long finish. It was extremely smooth. I wish it was just a touch creamier.

Overall- I love this beer. It's just heavy enough for a cold winter's day, but light enough to have more than one. I've been drinking it with very simple dishes. So far my favorite is a pint of this porter with a grilled cheese sandwich.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Pitch black color with a one-finger head that quickly settles
S: Cocoa, roasted malt, & molasses
T: Mostly roasted malt along with some bitter cocoa/coffee, also the molasses makes a reappearance
M: Medium-bodied though a bit thin, with the bitterness providing a long finish
O: Overall this is quite solid & I enjoyed it; I would love a bit more creaminess on the mouthfeel though the alcohol is already well balanced. I'll echo BB1313 in that this is good but Ohio is home to some fine porters that set the bar high.

Thanks to Robbie for this can. Poured in to tulip glass.

A - Black with half a finger of light bubbly medium brown head.

S - Big roast aroma with some milk chocolate, molasses and a hint of coffee.

T - Big roasted malt profile up front with a good sweetness in the middle and chocolate, molasses and brown sugar flavours. The finish is bitter with a hint of coffee.

M - Medium body. Creamy. Light carbonation.

thanks for the 12oz sample duff! Cheers!

poured into tulip glass.

Appearance: black bodied beer with huge gushing tan head. easily 3 fingers of full thick creamy head. drops to a thick cap. Spotty lacing everywhere.

Smell: This is what a porter should smell like! Nice roasty malt profile with a hint of sweetness. Elements of light roast coffee, choclate, molasses and a touch of smoke.

Taste: Mild chocolate sweetness starts it off. Molasses and a light smoke also linger in the start of the beer. It transitions into a lite roastiness. Slightly lingering bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Its a touch thin. A little creamier body would really do this beer wonders. Its a really sessionable porter. Not a hint of ABV.

Overall: Thicken the body up on this beer and its going to be nuts! I really like the nose and the flavor and its a sexy looking to porter to boot. Revolution can brew good beer for sure!

Appearance - dark black body with a bit of brown tint. Medium head but its not persisting. There isn't much lacing. Just a little carbonation showing.

Smell - roasted malt with a bit of coffee and little chocolate. There is a bit of hops in there too.

Taste- Much like the nose and the standard porter build. This leans more to a roasted malt side with slight bittering hops. There is also a slight bit of round sweetness as well.

Mouthfeel - This is a lighter body than most porters and is more carbonated. It a nice choice for something lighter.

I'd recommend picking up a grower to share.

Canned on 10/18/12. Poured into a pint glass.

A- Very dark brown. Aggressive pour yields a 2 finger, mocha head.

S- Roasted malts dominate. Hint of chocolate and light roast coffee at the end.

T- Flavors don't really live up to the smell for me. While I do get roasted malts and a little chocolate, everything seems a little dilutes. Could be freshness or maybe I was drinking it too cold? Seemed to get better as it warmed.

M- Medium body with a little more carbonation than I'd like. Does leave a good coat on the mouth though.

O- Somewhat of a disappointment to me. Maybe because I've been drinking a lot of RIS's lately but the thinner mouthfeel and subdued flavors left me wanting more. For my money, I'd go with edmund fitzgerald or founders if I'm looking for a porter.

12oz can poured into a pint glass. Pours a beautiful pitch black, with almost no light getting through. There's a huge khaki mocha head which sticks around and leaves very nice lacing. Awesome looking porter. The aromas are full chocolate malts. There's a subtle roastiness and a touch of smoke. There's mild hints of vanilla bean as well. The flavors have alot of dark chocolate and black coffee going on, giving it a pretty solid bitterness. There's also a touch of hop flavor, along with a hop bitterness, but the hops don't shine, nor do I think they should for the porter style. The flavors are nice, but not intense. I'm also picking up some roasted black coffee. The mouthfeel is interesting in a good way. Low carbonation. It's on the light side of medium-bodied. Smooth and fluffy making it an easy drinker. Alcohol goes unnoticed.

I'm not gonna lie, I was hoping for more. But it's still a very solid porter. Traditional and well crafted. There's nothing wrong with it at all, it just doesn't go the extra mile. It doesn't pop. I really dig the coffee aftertaste though. Maybe I'm just spoiled by some other easy to get porters in my area.
