12oz can poured into Bells tulip glass and consumed today 2/18/13. Thanks to mgm54 for including this as an extra.
Aroma: Nice combo of floral and citrus aromas with a deep contribution from a sweet breadiness. Smells great coming out of the can. (4)
Colour: Beautiful clear amber body. It literally looks like amber- glad there isn't an insect stuck inside it. Pours with a nice, creamy 2cm white head that dissipates after 1-2 minutes. Lacing gets to be a nice thick collar when I swirl it around, but otherwise falls down quickly. Really a very damn good looking IPA. (5)
Flavour: Big on the sweet breadiness from the nose, with floral hops on the palate from the middle to the end. Not a whole lot of citrus that I could smell from the nose. I would imagine the citrus is from the hop aroma while the floral aspects are from the bittering hops. Balanced to the point of being a strong APA. Which is what I like in my IPAs. (4)
Mouthfeel: Nothing particularly special. Medium bodied, perhaps on the lighter side, very good carbonation that leaves a bit of fizziness on the tongue. Resinous and the aftertaste is very pleasant. It doesn't linger for too long which I appreciate- if I want a big bitter aftertaste that stays for more than a minute, I'll drink a Hopslam. (3)
Overall: Very nicely balanced IPA that doesn't go too overboard on the hops. I prefer the less hoppy IPAs that allow some of the malt backbone to shine more and this is one such example. One might even consider it more of a strong APA, but APAs are more of my flavour than the current hop-heavy American-style IPAs. If it were distributed here in Wisconsin, I'd say it would be a great sessionable staple IPA six-pack that I'd pick up once a month. (4)
