Four Seasons, Morris

Anti-Hero is a hazy copper brew with good clarity. Platoons of carbonation rush to the surface. A snow white head with the consistency of soapy water easily rises to a couple fingers in height before settling to a thick cap and leaving sticky lines of lace down the glass. I'll have to scrub the hell out of this pint glass.

A very resinous, dank hoppiness hits up front and is followed by mouthwatering citrus. Orange, grapefruit pith, and cantaloupe all in that order of intensity. This is no doubt a hop forward IPA but there's a nice juicy caramel and biscuity maltiness.

The flavor follows suit. Solid resinous bitterness straight away followed by the juicy citrus mentioned in the aroma, no cantaloupe though. The resin seems to grow in the back of the throat and leaves a fairly substantial bitterness on the swallow. Caramel maltiness edges its way in to add a touch of balance but stays put as a base for the complex hop profile.

The mouthfeel on this beer is superb. Medium bodied with a velvety smooth texture and just enough carbonation to tickle the tip of my tongue. Moderate bitterness covers every square inch of my mouth and throat.

Bitter, juicy, velvety, and drinkable all describe this top notch IPA. Anti-Hero is a beer that I find myself buying very often, even with all the new craft on the shelves. A local tried and true favorite.

A - Golden and clear with a small white head. A fine sediment in suspension.

S - Piney and earthy hops.

T - Toasted malt with a moderate citrusy bitterness. Good balance despite the nice lingering bitterness.

M - Nice smooth consistency with a moderate carbonation.

O - A tasty, refreshing beer.
