Serving: 12 can into tulip
Served: 5 August 2014

Appearance: Pours a somewhat hazy burnt orange color with a sizable white head that quickly diminishes to leave just a ring of bubbles around the outside of the glass. Minor lacing, but nothing notable. Carbonation in small streams coming up the sides.

Smell: Sweet, sticky maltiness with a dank, citrus hoppiness. The hops in the nose are not as pronounced as many other IPAs.

Taste: Really heavily skewed towards the malty end of the IPA spectrum- lots of sweet, dense maltiness adding a layer of honey sweetness. The malt backbone kind of reminds me of Hopslam. The hops in the beer are used in balance with the assertive maltiness, and add notes of dank grapefruit and lemongrass notes. Finishes sweeter than I would have liked.

Mouthfeel: Thick on the tongue but with appreciable carbonation.

Overall: A great IPA. I'm happy this one favors a more appropriate balance between malts and hops, as this really comes off as a flavorful, big beer without feeling boozy or overly weighed down. This honestly tastes a lot like a Hopslam, but isn't as dense. I think of this one as almost like "Hopslam Lite". A great beer, and one I highly recommend.
