Notes/Commercial Description:
Our rye IPA is clean and refreshing, brewed with 2-row malt and flaked rye for toasty, nutty undertones up front, but with a huge hop flavor and aroma from the Amarillo and Fuggle hops.

Pours a golden orange hue in the glass completely glowing with an off white head, which forms a rocky textured head fine speckled lacing. Aroma has a spicy rye note with citrus notes reigning supreme here. Flavor is packed full of citrus, a bit of honeydew melon, and big spicy rye in each sip...I love how they pulled off the rye with the pale malt base leaving behind the flavors I love in an IPA. Pear and peach tartness goes well with the malt notes coming through I'm impressed with the drinkability of this beer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied slightly resinous flows evenly with each sip. Overall I'm a fan of this beer it goes down smooth even carbonation big beer with velvet gloves I can respect that.

On tap at Rev's 3rd Anniversary Party

A - Dark brown orange with golden undertones. Small head with foam that lingers on the sides and minimal lacing.

S - Slight citrus nose with orange and mango up front. There is a slight bitter pine that comes up near the back end. Don't get much of a rye presence.

T - Up front there is orange initially. As the beer moves on, it becomes more bitter with pine and grapefruit coming through. There is a slight malty, caraway breadiness from the rye that comes through but it is just a hint. The main profile is really the bitter hops that standout throughout and remain in the finish

M - Medium body with a slight stickiness. Thick hop resin remains in the finish

O - Solid IPA with lots of bitter hops near the finish that punch you in the mouth with their bitterness.. I don't get much Rye in it but that doesn't take away from how much I liked this beer overall.

A: Slightly hazy bright amber, flimsy white head. Decent lacing and retention

S: Big orange, bitter graptefruit, slight lemon zest - very nice

T: Much more bitter than sweet - citrus, earthy rye spice, slight biscuit. Very dry

P: Medium, active carbonation

O: Solid IPA

I pulled the ABV from another website, so I'm not positive it's accurate. My apologies if it isn't...

Color is a light and clear yellow-gold with limited head. Color was much lighter than ordinary for an IPA and the carbonation was aggressively rising from the bottom but failed to gather much at the surface.

Smell is perfume-like floral and citrus hops.

But for the name, I never would have suspected rye was used in this. It has a pleasant floral hop profile with a touch of orange rind. Bready malt adds a little balance. It lacks any of the characteristic rye spice. It's nice and bitter. In the end, very much resembles a normal ipa.

Mouthfeel is crisp, somewhat light, and dry.

An enjoyable IPA that goes down good. A solid beer from start to finish. Bonus points for the Black Flag reference in the name.

Reviewing the TV Party Rye IPA from Revolution Brewing Company.
Score: 93

Tap pour served in a tulip glass and enjoyed on 02/24/12 at the Revolution Brewpub. Review is from iPhone notes.

Appearance: Served with a finger of creamy white head. Bright orange/amber color (though it is hard to tell that given the lighting and color of the table behind the beer). Good lacing and retention for an IPA. 4/5

Smell: Fresh and fruity/floral citrus. Sappy pine. Rose, tropical fruit, grapefruit, tangerine/tangelo and pineapple. Really light hint of blueberry too. 4.5/5

Taste: Prominent flavors of fresh grapefruit, rye spice and piney hops flavors throughout. There is a sweet candied orange/tangerine citrus and hoppy tropical orange flavor on the palate too. Light caramel malt backbone. Very one dimensional, super tasty. There is a lasting orange rind and hoppiness flavor to the finish. 4/5

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium high carbonation that perks the hoppy flavors on the palate. Creamy/oily mouthfeel. Bitter finish. 4.5/5

Overall: Almost as good as the Anti-Hero IPA. Quite refreshing. A great example of the style.

Pairings: Falafel.

Cost: $6 for a tulip glass.

Appearance- Into a tulip pours a clear orange color with a nice finger foamy head, good retention and lacing.

Smell- Rye is definitly present and citrus hops.

Taste- Rye and slightly doughy malts start things off, a bit zippy. Leading into strong citrus hops, grapefruit and pinapple are most noticeable. A tad resinous at the finish. Great IPA taste, with the rye starting things off.

Mouthfeel- Medium body and carbonation.

Overall- This was the highlight of the night for me. I thought this was an excellent example of one of my favorite "sub styles". Took a growler of this home, I thought it was great!
