a sample sized pour at the brewpub for $5. this was on my first time coming to this place.
A- the beer is brought to me in a small taster glass looking a very murky medium brown colored body with a small khaki colored head on top. the head is slow to fade yet doesnt leave behind much lacing.
S- i was expecting a sour from the description, but the main attraction here seems to be the barrel. strong odors of vanilla/oak and bourbon. after that i pick out some plums, chocolate, and caramel malts. the alcohol is strong and makes itself known.
T- the taste is once again all about how this has been barrel aged. im greeted with lots of bourbon, vanilla, and oak. the fruitiness seems secondary. plum, raisin, and come chocolate. caramel malts add a small level of sweetness. a little bit of funky bacteria gets overshadowed by it all. the alcohol is decently strong.
M- medium bodied with a lower level of carbonation. the kick from the alcohol is very strong and overpowers the sourness.
O- the price per full serving ($7) is a turn off. im glad a local brewery is trying this, but i dont see myself trying this one my next journey to the city.

On-tap at Revolution. 5oz taster glass. A blend of Scotch Ale, Barrel-Aged Brown Ale, and pureed plums - not something where I'd risk ordering a full glass.
A - Transparent plum body, half-finger of tan foam that settles to a thick collar, a few wisps of bubbles, and no lace.
S - Bourbon, vanilla, light smoke, caramel, treacle, chocolate, and a hint of alcohol. Plums come through as nebulous dark fruit character.
T - Chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, vanilla, bourbon, and light tartness in the finish.
M - Medium-bodied, lower carbonation, sticky and lightly chewy. Hint of alcohol as well.
D - Could have had a full snifter of this one. This was better than I expected. Alcohol would impede consumption of mass quantities, but a nice beer of which you could slowly sip a glass or two.

On-tap @ Rev into snifter.
A - Pours a mirky reddish brown, off-white head, spotty lacing, thin whisps on top.
S - Chocolate covered berries, tart notes, some oak. I really enjoy the tart and chocolate notes here, they work well together.
T - The tart notes are more pronounced on the palate, chocolate, oak, berry sweetness. Sort of a mess, but overall, I enjoyed the two beers + barrel + plums.
M - Medium, soft carbonation, creamy finish.
D - I did enjoy this one and had two full pours. I would def have it again if offered at Rev. Some didn't enjoy this as much as me, but I liked it and that's what matters.
