Bottled on 12/1/13. 22oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with a small amount of light getting through; fluffy khaki head that eventually fades and leaves nice retention and solid lacing. Lots of milk chocolate in the nose followed by some sweet bourbon. Hints of vanilla and coconut are present as well. Very subtle amount of coffee aromas. The flavors are smooth and balanced. Nothing seems to be overwhelming. The bourbon presence is there, but it doesn't takeover. Lots of malts and grains. More chocolate. It's not really bitter. Some coffee flavor, but not over the top. Subtle hints of oak/wood. Some caramel and butterscotch in the mix. Mouthfeel is full-bodied; creamy and fluffy with active carbonation. Alcohol goes unnoticed. This is a nice sipper.
This is a nice porter. I like this more than than Eugene (base beer), but I enjoyed Mean Gene more. Mean Gene is basically the same thing as this, minus the coffee. I was hoping for more coffee flavors, but this is still a nice treat.
