On tap at the Kedzie brewery; review from written notes.
Obsidian black, wispy skim and ring around the edges, a swirl generates a thin layer of tan foam that remains for a few seconds, then ebbs away. No lacing, fairly still on the surface.
Huge coffee aroma, very roasty and complex with a little natural acidity.
Barrel is more present in the taste, dry finish with woody tannins riding alongside stray wisps of campfire smoke. Dry roasty espresso served black no cream, moderate bitterness, some blackened malt alongside. Whiskey component is pretty overt as it warms up, it's not especially boozy but definitely warming, though it remains very drinkable. Nicely blended and medium bodied. Overall a solid core member of the "Gene Family".

This poured thickly with a black color and a foamy head that laid thinly across the top.
The nose is earthy with a coffee bean and smoke but hints of marshmallow and chocolate are apparent.
The flavor has light coconut, a buttery cream, and marshmallow to open. Chocolatey sweetness follows with malted barley and oak wood.
The feel is dry but velvety smooth, easy but thick and full.
A thoroughly enjoyable beer with a good amount of sweetness to carry it as dessert.
