BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Revolution Brewing Company
Illinois, United States | website

Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Bean Gene is the first variation we did with our Mean Gene barrel-aged Eugene Porter.

After months socked away in bourbon barrels, we steeped it with Dark Matter coffee beans prior to bottling. Smooth and well-balanced, with hints of vanilla and an in-your-face coffee flavor, enjoy it at breakfast, lunch or dinner.

22oz bomber poured into a snifter. No bottled on date listed.

A- Pours a dark brown with a small amount of khaki colored head which quickly fades to the side of the glass. Some lacing can be seen along the sides also.

S- Very nice smelling beer. Huge bourbon aromas, along with coffee, chocolate, and vanilla tones.

T- Starts off with notes of coffee and chocolate before the bourbon settles in. Nice warming from the bourbon with some oak notes as well.

M- Medium bodied, light carbonation, big bourbon notes for just 8.5% ABV.

A nice BA porter, and one worth picking up and trying. This would do great with some age on it as well.

Pours thick viscous black in color with a thin tan head that retains nicely. Smell has rich decadent aromas of coffee chocolate vanilla. a light roasted aroma overlays hints of bourbon, oak, and more vanilla. Taste follows nose with a large amount of rich chocolate malt and coffee first to hit the palate before loads of sweet vanilla, roasted malt bitterness, bourbon, fig, oak and more vanilla tannins in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium to thick in body with mild small bubble velvety carbonation and a nice balance eternal sticky sweet and bitter charred malt. Nicely balanced beer.

Something was off with this one. Had kind of a pepper taste that didn't jive with the other flavors.

Really excited to have found this on tap. Pours opaque, dark brown in color, with 1/3 inch head. taste is coffee, bourbon, vanilla, and oak. The coffee plays well with the bourbon and never overwhelms it. It is there as a complementary flavor. One of the best coffee beers I have had. I love Revolution's barrel program about as much as any brewer's program. This one does not disappoint.

On tap at Rev's brewery

A - A dark porter brown with a creamy mocha colored head

S - Sweet coffee, cream sweetness, light roasted malt and slight vanilla. A bit sweeter nose than regular Eugene

T- Light coffee up front as well as sweet cream. The Eugene porter aspects come through in the finish as I get a slight roasted malt. I felt like the coffee adds a nice new dimension without being overpowering

MF - Light body with medium carbonation. Slight astringency in the finish from the roasted malt

O - Solid beer with the coffee adding a new dimension to an already good porter. It really adds some nice new flavors and complexity to the beer. Overall, the coffee is an accent instead of being overpowering.
