To commemorate our 3rd year anniversary we brewed this hearty wheat barley wine with piloncillo sugar and aged it for 4 months in Appleton rum casks. The result is something special; layers of caramel, molasses, toasted malt, oak and warmth. Cheers!

Appearance: Pours a clear chestnut color with a frothy tan head; dots and streaks of lacing lacing around

Smell: Toast, caramel, Rum, figs, pear, brown sugar, molasses and a hint of banana

Taste: Caramel, brown sugar, fig, pear and building Rum tones; in the mid-palate, molasses, toast and banana flavors arrive; a complex blend through the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet

Overall: A couple of years in the bottle really benefited this beer as the flavors have merged in an interesting fashion; we need more Wheat Wines like this

Thanks, Eziel, for the opportunity

Pulled from notes taken on Dec. 6, 2013

APPEARANCE: Barleywine mahogany in color with a quick flash of a half-finger of head as it pours. Wisps of foam rest on top, no lacing.

SMELL: Rum, sugar cane, oak, brown sugar, molasses, figs, dates, maybe a little raisin in there as well. Boozy notes.

TASTE: Sweet and delicious. Molasses, brown sugar, oak and cherry. Dark fruit, some banana and clove once it warms. The booziness from the nose is not present in the taste at all. Also, a little chocolate as it warms.

MOUTHFEEL: Lighter in body than a Barleywine. Sweet, but not cloying. Very smooth, goes down easy.

OVERALL: Still have not had a bad beer from these guys. I was surprised how Barleywine-like it was in many ways, but really did lighten up in the mouthfeel.

Molasses, dark fruit, cinnamon, vanilla, oak. Not very sweet, dry finish, and medium mouth feel. A bit earthy. This is great. Not sure if this is the same base as Straight Jacket or not, but I feel the bourbon barrel goes a tiny bit better with it.
