This is a traditional German-style Helles. "Helle" in German means "light-colored." Brewed with 2row and Munich malts, it has more malt character and less hop bitterness than our German pilsner, but it is balanced by the hop flavor of the GR Spalt hops. Brewed eight weeks ago, the extended lagering period (cold storage) lends to a clean, refreshing summer beer.

Thanks to Thomas & Jenny for this one!
Draft at the brewery, served in a mug.
Hazy dark gold, frothy white foam across the surface, flecks of spotty lace around the edges.
Lightly crackery aroma, dry and not sweet thankfully.
Taste is mild and lightly bready, dry crackery malt with a very light grassy bitterness in the aftertaste. Lean and light bodied, easily drinkable and a good pairing with chicken schnitzel from Olga's. Simplicity is underrated...

What the Helles was a solid Helles style lager.....it poured a clear yellow with white head that did not lace much. The scent was pretty non-descript. The taste had nice biscuit like tones. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was good.

On-tap at Revolution brewpub. 5oz taster glass on the day it was released.
A - White foam settles to a thick collar, wisps on top, and splotches of lace. Transparent pale, golden body.
S - Bready malts, with notes of dough and light floral hopping. No very complex, but fairly true to style.
T - The taste is a tiny bit sweeter, with a heavier emphasis on dough and honey, with perhaps a bit of nebulous pear and grape fruitiness mixed in. Low bitterness.
M - Medium body, with a crisp, dry, lager finish. Pleasant upper medium carbonation.
D - A nice refreshing Helles that is flavorful and easily consumed. Unfortunately, I heard reports that this developed off-flavors as it aged. Still, it was quite pleasant on day one.
