Third stop on a recent trip to Chicago with my girlfriend.
VIBE: the place was packed when we came on a Saturday night. Obviously a popular spot. Had to wait for our table so we grabbed some drinks and stood by the bar for about 15 minutes. Cool atmosphere and modern decor with multiple dining areas surrounding a gargantuan, brightly-lit bar.
SERVICE: the bartender was quick to fetch our orders and the waitress was very efficient at getting our food, beer, and wine to the table. They weren’t the most personable servers (since they were so freakin’ busy), but they certainly took care of our needs.
SELECTION: 8 house beers, all different styles, 2 casks, with La Trappe Isid’or, Dark Horse Sapient Trip, Victory Summer Love, and Anderson Valley Boontlinger Weiss serving as the guest draughts. Didn’t notice any bottles. I ordered the Anti-Hero IPA and Coup d’Etat Saison, both of which impressed me. The lady was relieved to find a pinot grigio of her liking.
FOOD: way better than we expected. I went for the Blackened Pork Belly and Clear Lakes Rainbow Trout; my girl had the Soft Pretzel and Spring Vegetable salad. All of the fare was delicious and carefully presented. In fact, it seemed like a few of the patrons were here just for the cuisine.
OVERALL: Revolution is a well rounded brewpub that delivers on all fronts. Although the guest taps didn’t blow me away (in comparison to Haymarket, for instance), the house brews were flavourful and satisfying, and the food was superb. A great spot for dinner and drinks.
