The Library Pub is housed in an unremarkable strip mall in somewhat far-north, west-of-center part of Omaha. It's not particularly easy to locate, being on top of a hill and recessed in said strip mall.
Once you do find it, you'll make your way inside to this venue that seems to be halfway between a dive and sports bar. As with many places, too many TVs on the walls leads to distraction, rather than concentration or discussion with whoever I'm going to the bar with. There is a typical bar at along the western wall of the building, with seating (tables and old office chairs?) on the east. Fairly dark, the place reminds me of an abandoned office complex's basement. Unique in a generic sort of way.
The lone staff member I dealt with was surly at best. I don't care to be greeted with a smile or any such falsities, but I'd rather not be stared at until I asked for a beer or otherwise made to feel that I was disrupting the bartender's sports-watching in this largely empty bar. Other times I've been here, the bartender was much better, relaxed, and courteous, so your experience will vary.
Good selection of 20+(?) taps and an assortment of bottles from non-BMC US and European breweries. Far more unique selection than the Dell, and occasionally superior to the Crescent Moon's. Probably on par with the Brass Monkey's. Their online list of what's available is not always accurate.
There is no food available, but stale popcorn is sometimes available from a popper/warmer in the corner.
I like the Library Pub because it is quieter than the Dell or Crescent Moon; it's the place to actually talk with people about something over a beer or two. The atmosphere is largely nonexistent; I've been in well-built bars, and it's a joy to be in them. It's not a pleasure to be in the Library Pub, aside from it's relative silence.

The Library is a fun little bar, tucked into an obscure stripmall. While it seems very locals-centric...the type of place where everyone turns to look at you when you walk in...it's really welcoming and there's plenty of good reasons to visit this place. I'd call it a second-teir attraction for tourists...who should instead hit up Upstream, Crescent or Krug Park before here.
Their tap list is probably the most interesting in town. The end up with 1/6th barrels of the rarest stuff, it seems. It seems like you'll find the choicest rarities from the distributor here. The owner must really be nice to his rep.
The service is stellar, usually the beer connoisseur owner, and the atmosphere is dark divebar-esque and quaint. A few bookshelfs lend to the pub's name. A couple tvs, keno, etc. Nothing fancy. They have happy hours and other events.
As with many other Omaha beer bars, they don't have a food menu, which somewhat limits our options/times for visiting.

Library Pub is a mix of Brass Monkey, a dash of Dundee Dell and a good dose of neighborhood dive bar. The mix is a good thing. Located in, I guess you'd call it an old strip mall, on the west side of 90th St. near Fort. Not really in the heart of craft beer country... and, like the Brass Monkey, that is not a bad thing.
Dive bar look upon walking in... and then you notice the nice collection of scotch and bourbon and then you notice the taps... it's all craft beer aside from one handle of Bud Light. You got to like that. It seems there are a few handles dedicated to the rarer stuff and then a good mix of quality craft beer. Compared to other Omaha beer bars, it stacks up just fine.
There is no food served here, it's just a bar.
The bartenders, it seems, are far from beer geeks but they at least know what they have on tap and in stock. Which leads me to the 100 or so bottles they carry... again, a very nice collection of craft/imports in bottles.
My only complaint is they don't do a good job washing the glassware. I've had a couple soapy beers and a couple dirty glasses. Hopefully that issue gets fixed. All the draft beer I've had has been first. I did get one bad bottle but that can happen.
Still, the Library Pub is a worthwhile stop of Omaha beer drinkers.

This is the only place for beer & whisky lovers in NW Omaha!
Great selection with over 20 taps and over 100 in the coolers. The owner/operator, Mark, is knowledgeable and stocks quality. He also does a great job matching customers to beers!
Nothing fancy here - this is strictly a comfy neighborhood bar. Most comfortable seats in town!
Also the best prices on craft/import beer and Whiskies in the area!
Recent additions include a website listing some of their offerings (www.librarypubomaha.com), a facebook page, beer and spirits tastings and cask nights.
Overall, great value and an oasis for beer lovers in this part of town. Stop by!

For those who dwell or visit the other side of 72nd St in Omaha. The Library is an exceptional place in Beer No-Mans land (west of 72nd) Situated in NW Omaha it is a haven for aficionados. The prices are reasonable and the staff/owner are knowledgeable about beer and bourbons. (Cheapest place in town to drink fine bourbons.)
They have about 140 craft and great imports (and I don't mean the regular import swill, i.e. Stella, Heine, Guinness, Becks, St. Pauly's, ect.) in bottles and now 22 taps up from the 8 they started with and more to be added in the near future per owner.
The atmosphere is dank strip mall like but you are not going for atmosphere you are goin for beer and this place has it. IMO the Library ranks a 3rd not by much in the Omaha Metro area. It is out of my way but I make the effort to visit with regularity.
