There's nothing at all wrong with this place, but given some of the previous scores and reviews of this place, I was kind disappointed by 4D.

Atmosphere-wise, 4D is a cut above your usual faux Irish pub. Yes, it has all the usual pictures on the walls and beer related bric-a-brac, but they also have a comfy couch area up front by the door, and there's lots of wood all around as well. The bar is solid and handsome, and with the 3 TV's on the wall, this is definitely a comfortable place to hang out with a cold one.

As for the beer selection.... shrug. It's fine, but hardly what I would call a beer destination worthy of a special visit. On this particular day, they had 14 different beers on tap (one cider as well), and then another 12 or 15 different bottles available (not counting crap like bud lite, rolling rock, etc.). They did seem to have a nice representation of Samuel Smith stuff, but otherwise, like the tap list, the bottle selection was pretty underwhelming. As for the tap list, you can find things like Smithwicks, Guinness and stella, as well as Lagunitas IPA, Ninkasi Total Domination, Widmer hefe, etc. Probably the most interesting beers on the menu included the SOB pin up porter, SN torpedo, and the HV citrus mistress. OK stuff, for sure, but hardly anything to get excited about either. The menu mentions that they sometimes get in rare and/or limited items, so maybe my experience wasn't typical. There certainly were none of those on the tap or bottle list the evening I stopped in.

Service was OK. The young man waiting on me wasn't exactly a fountain of information (he had to look up Rochefort 10 and Ola dubh when I asked about the bottles on the top shelf - turns out they were long since out of the OD), but he was quick, efficient, and pretty much all I needed in a bartender. Food was likewise OK. I got the cobb salad and it was fine. The menu has a lot of Irish and/or english sounding items (bubble and squeak, shepards pie, etc.), but most folks were ordering the traditional pub grub (sandwiches, quesedilla, etc.), Prices were fairly reasonable. My salad with chicken and a pint of citrus mistress came to $17.

Not sure I can think of any reason to ever come back here.

Nice looking pub, beautiful wooden back bar, lots of historic photos and memorabilia hanging on the exposed brick wall. High score for decor.

Not so good as far as beer selection goes. Of the 14 taps, there were 3 IPAs, Guinness, Fat Tire, Stella, and some others. Nothing memorable. I had a Hop Nosh Tangerine.

The food was decent. I had a pretty good Reuben. They had one waitress struggling to keep up with 25 customers. It wasn't her fault, but the service was about like the beer, passable but not great. Once the crowd left, the service was fine.

On the other hand, we were able to watch the Warriors Cavs, with good food and OK beer!

My wife and I stopped here for lunch, and it was a nice day so we sat at a sidewalk table. While briefly inside the restaurant it looked like a cool pub environment that would be fitting for what I'd call an Irish pub.

The tap list was a good one as far as the number of beers is concerned, but not being from this area I couldn't evaluate the overall quality of the selections to give a precise evaluation. From what I know of the reputations of the breweries that were listed, it is at least a good beer selection.

The food menu was interesting with many unique selections that would allow anyone to find something that they'd like. Both my wife and I were happy with the items that we ordered.

When traveling in this area again, we'll come back here.

The beer selection is amazing here. The taps are regularly rotated with amazing seasonal, reserve and everyday great beer. The food is ok, your standard Irish pub fare. The place is a bit more open than I would like with more of a lodge feeling than a cozy pub. The atmosphere and food aside, this is one of the only bars in Southern Oregon with a great beer selection. If nothing else, stop in for that reason alone.

Some great rarities on tap to date:
* Life and Limb by Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head
* Racer X by Bear Republic Brewing
* XX and XXI Anniversary Black Butte by Deschutes Brewery
* Ten Fidy by Oskar Blues
* 120 Minute IPA by Dogfishhead
* "John John" Whiskey barrel aged Dead Guy Ale by Rogue Brewery
* Pliney the Younger by Russian River Brewing

If you're lucky they'll resume these amazing beer dinners they did in 2009. The dinners paired beer from a West Coast brewery with an exceptional 7 course meal. To top it all off, all the proceeds went to a local charity. If you stop in, ask them to resume this amazing tradition. With enough support, it might happen.
