I absolutely LOVE this beer - it is damn near one of my favorites. It is very smooth, full of flavor and once you've had enough of them, makes you wwant to speak with a Jamaican accent.

I think it's uniquie for the fact that it's not available everywhere and I enjoy it everytime I have it.

served in a wheat glass between 45-50 degrees

A: a light yellow color, some bubbles, think head that stays around

S: smells like any light American Lager to me...nothing special here

T: very very slight bitterness, nothing stands out in taste

M: smooth, practically like drinking water

D: very easy...easier than most American Lagers

Not a bad beer, but nothing special about it.

20oz. brown snub nose bottle.

A: Pours a dull yellow with a large whhite head that quickly turns thin. A small amount of watery lacing is left.

S: Sweet cereal malts and faint hops.

T/M: Light/Medium bodied. Creamy with a nice carbonation tingle. Very sweet with a citrus flavor. Finishes to dry.

D: Nice and refreshing. Something I would get once in awhile. Tastes good and is cheep.

Pale straw color with a fizzy head that gives off sweet biscuity aromas.

Taste is mild with a low profile of hop characteristic, mostly biscuity malt flavor, and some sweetness.

The taste is great. For a plain beer, this has alot to offer in the taste dept. I would recommend this brew to anyone who just wants to enjoy a few brews out of a really cool old school bottle on a fine sunny day.

Mouthfeel is ok and drinkability is defining.

A - Slightly better color than most adjuncts, but the head still still disappears in pretty much no time and theres no lacing.

S - Sweet corn smell and somewhat of a grassy smell.

T - Similar to the smell, lots of corn grains. Slightly skunky. However there is a little bit of hop character and depth to this beer, which makes it slightly above average for an adjuct.

M - Fairly watery, nothing special, nothing offensive.

D - Very drinkable as most adjucts are.

Not bad for a macro adjuct. Not my favorite of those out there either, but better than many. I would drink this if it was cheaper, but I'd rather have a Pabst for about half the price.

Edit... Can vs. bottle

Tried the new cans and noticed some changes.
A - notcied much better head and for the style good retention, even some lacing.

S - similar

T - Similar, but better, this time without the skunk taste and with more malt character instead of as much of a corn taste.

M - slightly fuller

D - Still very drinkable

One of my favorites in the style now. I've always been one to prefer cans, and I think this may be a good example of what the oskar blues brewing company has been trying to tell everyone. The can seemed to do a lot to preserve the freshness of this beer. Planning to visit Jamaica in March, hope to see if the taste varies there, and can't wait to try dragon stout

A: Light yellow, large white head that doesn't retain well and dissipates quickly.

S: Generally clean; some adjunct malts but not much more.

T: Some sweet adjunct malts, a strong phenolic taste that's not as off-putting as i had thought, and a bit of hops to round out the finish. Slightly medicinal and herbal in the body. While it does seem to stand out a bit above the rest of the macro-brewerd adjunct lagers because of the phenols, it doesn't hold its own against microbrewed lagers.

M: Highly carbonated and watery.

D: Not as bad as I had thought; this being the second time a friend has given it to me, I actually enjoyed it much better than the first time I had it. Would I pick it up voluntarily though? probably not.

Sorry, but I didn't like this beer at all. I'm not sure if the bottle I had was a bad one. I wish I could have a sample from the brewery.
I didn't finish the bottle because I thought that the beer was weak. It was tasteles and watered down. I felt some carbonation but not much.
I don't like to give bad reviews but this is a beer that I cannot recommend to anyone.

The Red Stripe is a nice beer in all the sense. Its not exceptional in any way but it dose its job better then most competitors.
A: Looks great, almost white foam that goes away super fast if you pour it into a medium sized glass.
S: It dosent really smell that much. Im holding a bottle in my hand and i dont really feel anything special.. It has something of a damp feeling in the end(!).
T/M: A great taste i must say. I may be boring but at this price i have a hard time to see what else you could change around this price. Perhaps the best taste under 2usd? It curls nicely and its rather smooth and light for your mouth The aftertaste is legit, noting weird or unexpected drops here. A bit sweet taste runs throw in the beginning but it dosent last all the way through the zip.
D: Its quite good. Nice feeling all the way. It has a great taste and my over all opinion is that this beer dose its job very good and can be warmly recommend for the right actuation.

LCBO had a special for Red Stripe cans, figured it was worth a go. I'm not a pale lager fan in the slightest, but I really need some easy-drinking summer brews, and sometimes, alls I wants is a beer.

Pours a light golden, thin bit of head that didn't last very long. Visible carbonation.

Smells okay - corn, straw, a bit of hops.

Is it exciting? Not really. Is it drinkable? You bet! Actually, I kind of enjoyed it - I was eating some spicy food and it did the trick. Typical pale lager taste, slightly tinny at the finish, but relatively balanced such as it is.

Thin and well-carbonated.

Might be one of my stand-to's for the summer. Not a bad little brew for what it is.

Look: Bright yellow urine-type color, the foamy head has 2 fingers but disappears very quickly, the bottle is worse, seems like medical packaging; Smell: Sweet and smooth, malt and grains only; Taste: Acceptable, sweet malt and lot of carbonation, no hops to talk about; Mouthfeel: Refreshing, denotes slightest bitterness with a sweet finish, very carbonated, but don't being offensive; Drinkability: Mediocre.

12 oz bottle from a 'world of beer' gift pack, so who knows how old this is, no freshness date. Poured to glass. Light golden yellow, practically no head, faded to almost nothing. Smell was a bit like BMC but also had something like pee or ammonia, not really funk or skunk, hard to pin it. Taste was somewhat sweet, but again hard to pin what the grain was...not really malt or wheat or even rice. Carbonation was very prickly and gassy, not something I really liked. I hate to be too hard on this since it's probably past its prime but this was one of the worst beers I've had. I'd be willing to try again (if I'm ever in Jamaica).

Poured from a 24oz medicine subby bomber (I made that up) into a beer mug.

Pours light golden yellow with active whte foam. Quick recession. Light beer smell, not distinctive. Are there corn notes in there? Perhaps.

Light clean watery taste. Virtually no hop backing it - like flavored water. Strangely likeable. Clean finish.

Good taste - I can easily see this as a good drinking isalnd beer - even as I drink in southern new england in January.

Uncomplicated, and maybe thats just the point.

Easily drinkable and great to have with any sort of spicy, flavorful dish. Doesn't bring anything especially notable to the table, but certainly doesn't offend the palet, and has a decent creamy mouthfeel.

Obviously not a first option, but in situations where choices are limited you could do much worse.

I saw this now comes in a can and thought I'd give it a whirl.

Pours a clear, incredibly light gold color topped by the kind of loose, fizzy, large bubbled, head you'd expect from something that was force carbonated.

The aroma...is 100% pure, adulterate macro lager--grains and corn.

The taste is very light, all grains and corn...nonexistent hop flavor and no real bitterness to speak of. It tastes like a macro. What more is there to say?

As for drinkability, yes. Served cold in the heat of summer (or Jamaica, I imagine) this might do the trick and isn't much better or worse than others of its ilk.

Red Stripe! It's beer! Hoo-ray for beer!!!

A very light pale lager wit ha thin foam head.

Some hops and grain. Really not much to smell. A bitter taste as well.

Smooth with medium body and good carbonation.

A good beer to have with a meal or to wash something down. I really enjoy red stripe as a decent lager.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Pure clear orangish, light amber with a small white head that fades to only some foam around the edges of the glass

S: Sweet with a very grassy aroma, some slight metallic notes once in a while come out, sweet grain is dominant

T: Definite sweet grain again, sometimes that slightly metallic note is perceivable, sweetness has an odd combination with those other flavors

M: Very fizzy carbonated feel, but pretty thin behind that

D: Flavors aren't bad, and it is light and easy to drink

Notes: Is this metallic hint normal? It fades as it warms. It really isn't ever too unpleasant thought, just noticeable. Overall, this beer isn't bad, but it is still just about average.

This is a very good beer. For some reason it reminds me of Corona Extra, but better. This at least has flavor, color, and head. This is a good beer to have at a store, it makes for a good addition. This beer is also great for back yard grilling, and with Jerk Chicken.

Poured from bottle into mug glass.

A - Poured clear bright yellow, golden color with small head that dissipated very quickly leaving no lacing.

S - Wheat with slight hoppiness but other than that very plain.

T - Just like smell, wheats upfront with slight bitterness at the finish. Overall very plain taste with no complex flavors.

M - Light bodied with high carbonation.

D - Light beer which is very plain makes it a very good session beer and abv is low.

Red Stripe Jamaican Lager is a perfectly clear yellow color with a modest white head that quickly evaporated to a collar.

The aroma is slightly skunked with that sweet, grainy lager smell.

The taste is really weak, just some grain taste, although nothing particularly offensive.

The mouth feel is light bodied and crisp with reasonable carbonation.

The drinkability depends on whether you are on a Jamaican beach with the temperature in the mid 90's, or in your Michigan living room in January. Guess which one is the higher drinkability situation.

Well, I'm not on a Jamaican beach, so Red Stripe gets rated accordingly. It is not one of the lost gems of brewing. It is a very average lager, which means not a lot is going on here.

A: Straw yellow color, fairly translucent, thin white head that dissipates quickly, very little lacing.

S: Bready with some adjunct scents. Not much going on here.

T: Something is giving it some sweet taste. The grain/yeast can be tasted.

M: Decent mouth coating

D: A decent lager I would choose before other similar styles.

Sampled from a 12oz bottle in a hotel glass.

A - A light straw color with excellent clarity and a minimal white head that dissipates very quickly.

S - Not much aroma. A slight bready scent with a crispness from the yeast. But overall, it's very faint.

T - Not a lot of flavor. A slight crispness from the yeast with a mild sweetness.

M - Thin with a very low carbonation. Drinks a bit like Gatorade.

D - There's not a lot of flavor or aroma to this beer but it's extremely drinkable and has its place. This is one of my favorite summertime beers (partly because it reminds me of a great business trip to Kingston). It's great on a hot day. I see that a lot of people are critical of this beer but for what it is, it's a good beer.

Picked up a big bottle of this for 3.99 at a beer place in Monroeville. I could have paid 2.95 for it at the "beer barn" but I thought I would try it again since I haven't had it in a while and it is a good lager.

A - Bright yellow with a decent amount of head.
S - Smells like citrus with a sugary cane sent.
T - Slight bitter with a sugar taste rounding out the flavor.
M - Slight malt and bitter. A typical lager.
D - One bottle was enough.

Really was more bitter than I remember. Maybe my palate has changed over the years from craft brew but this used to be a treat from regular rolling rock and now it's only slightly above average. An ok beer.

Poured bottle into pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a pale gold color that was crystal clear. I was a little surprised by the nice 1-finger head I got and it lasted for a little bit.

Smell: Sweet malt smell with what seemed like hints of citrus. It also has a bit of that watered down smell common with adjuncts, but this wasn't quite as bland.

Taste: Whatever citrus I noticed in the smell, was not present in the taste. There was a bit of a bitter aftertaste with a malt backbone. Decent.

Mouthfeel: Very thin body, almost watery.

Drinkability: Not bad. This is one of the better adjunct lagers I've had, and this would be perfect with a burger or hot dog or something.

12 oz. bottle poured into a 16 oz. pint (tulip) glass, (September 9, 2009).

Eyes: Light straw gold color with a quickly forming head of large bubbles that dissipates just a quickly. Lacing?

Nose: Skunky up front, corny. Some malty sweetness.

Tongue: No real flavor profile other than the basics for a adjunct. A suggestion of some decent grassy hops, and a suggestion of sweet malt, finished poorly however.

Mouth: Cold, fairly clean, very light.

Libation: What can I say? It's neither complex nor interesting, and to be any good is must be drunk very, very cold. I know this is an adjunct lager and people tend to lower standards in this category, but there are good adjuncts out there and this just isn't one of them.
