12oz bottle poured into my FW imperial nonic glass
Notes taken on 04/20/14

A: Easy Jack pours a light golden amber body with precision like clearness. Streaming carb is evident leading up to a sudsy topping of paper white foam. Retention efforts are fair and only a few scattered dots of stick are left clinging to the glass.

S: Brilliantly floral nose with blasts of conifer forest and tangerine fruit. I am getting some lesser notes of earthy herbals and a dash of pale malt bready sweetness. Nicely done with a very hop forward nose.

T: Flavors follow suit with a healthy hop punch across the palate delivering flowery pines and assorted citrus fruit flavors. Mostly tangerine however some lemon lime and grapefruit start to emerge. A healthy dose of bready malts brings great balance to this session IPA. It really drinks bigger than the 4.5% ABV. Has a slight touch of resinous dank herbs and grass on the finish although it’s not very prevalent. This is tasty and very very clean. Impeccably well executed.

M: Body is very light but feels bigger on account of the malt breadiness. Nice spritzy carb provides a lovely texture complimenting the upper moderate amount of bitterness. Very dry and crisp on the finish with a slight resinous after feel. Mostly clean otherwise.

D: A very good and balanced Session. This is one of the few that didn’t leave me wanting for something more. Has just enough malt presence to cover the spread over all dem fresh hops. It is quite refreshing. Firestone Walker did a great job with staying true to the Jack family here. An all around great beer that satisfies.

A nice crisp taste with a bit of hops. Somewhat of an aftertaste but nothing invasive. Its one of those IPAs to be careful with though - very smooth and can get your a bit tipsy quickly if you keep drinking them. I'm a huge fan of Firestone IPAs and would strongly suggest this one as one to have for a nice hot summer day.

For me, it's a push between Easy Jack and my current favorite session, Lagunitas DayTime, both of which I drink from the bottle. I think the dankness of DayTime is a little more lingering, which could be attributable to its slightly higher ABV. Really a preference thing anyway. I really dig the Easy Jack though. It pours pretty light, but has a well-rounded, citrusy IPA taste and a pretty hefty mouthfeel for just 4.5%. I would pick this up for an outing with no regrets.

From a 355 ml bottle (dated June 26, 2014) into a tulip.

A-The brew is clear and very light-golden in color with yellow highlights. Two fingers of nearly white head drop quickly to a thick cap that hangs around for quite a while. Lacing is spotty.

S-The aroma is a blast of juicy, tropical fruit and citrus flavors. I smell pineapple, mango, orange, orange zest, light floral aromas, and a bit of cracker malts. Bitterness is light here. Enticing if a bit unbalanced.

T-The taste is similarly hopped up and juicy, but the lack of malt balance really drags things down. There is still the pineapple and orange zest hops, but there is very little behind the hops to give the beer any depth or character. It tastes a little watery.

M-The feel is pretty light with a medium, barely creamy carbonation that cannot overcome the thin feel and taset.

O-More than many other beers of this style, this one tastes like hoppy water. It is a shame too because the smell is really juicy and the hop profile could have produced wonderful results with just a bit more pale malt body and backbone. The mouthfeel suffers, as well. All that being said, if you want a juicy "session IPA," this would be a good choice.
