APPEARANCE: This is one of the most transparent beers I’ve ever seen. It is completely crystal clear and straw pale in color. A rocky, white head foam up to about a half an inch then quickly settles down to cover the surface of the beer with about an eighth of an inch cap. Underneath, the beer looks lively. A few really big bubble scream towards the surface faster than the hundreds of tiny bubbles surrounding them.

SMELL: Firestone-Walker beers usually really impress my nose. This one smells good, but it lacks intensity. Typical IPA aromas of citrus and pine are a little less pronounced than in some other similar beers while pineapple comes through a little stronger.

TASTE: A lot of hop flavor, a little pine, grass, some notes of sweeter fruits and mildly bitter citrus flavors. The big bitter bite of an IPA, however, is not there. Instead, Easy Jack provides the palate a light tease of bitterness along with a mild bready flavor.

MOUTHFEEL: Very easy drinking and medium-bodied - much bigger body than many other Session IPAs. There is a touch of sweetness, but it’s mostly dry. The finish is mostly clean, leaving a hint of hops behind.

OVERALL: This is a very nice example of a Session IPA. As with most things Firestone-Walker does, they brewed this to be spot on for the style. The only thing they haven’t figured out is how to get cans of this out to Colorado in time for my first river trip this year.

Consumed 8/23/14

A: Honey colored with some orange and gold - pours with a small, white head, fades to a small cap, leaves some decent streaks of lacing

S: Very nice, above average for a session IPA - bright citrus hop profile with orange, tangerine, and some grapefruit flesh - some zest and floral citrus - low sweetness, very pale malts, very light overall

T: Hop soda - nice hoppy flavors match up with the aroma - tangerine, orange, and grapefruit - medium level of bitterness - maybe some melon, too - somewhat juicy, very bright - extremely pale, lightly bready malts, virtually no sweetness

M: Light body, nicely carbonated, extremely easy to drink

O: Being this good is not easy

This is the best "session" IPA I've had. As usual, it's not fair to compare it to a "real" IPA, but it's remarkable for what it is. If Firestone Walker puts this in cans, I would probably keep this stocked all summer.

Pale yellow with a fluffy white foam head. Bread, oranges, and herbal in the nose. Light-bodied, grapefruit, citric, grassy, tannic, orange rinds with a dry, mineral finish. Packed with flavor and extremely drinkable.

A very solid session beer for those looking for light and hoppy.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear straw yellow with a medium creamy white head that goes to a thin film, leaves a little lacing and then almost disappears.

The aroma is very subdued - slightly vegetative, piney, resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet bready malts with some spicy, peppery, piney hops. The mouthfeel is light bodied and a bit watery.

Overall, an OK blandish session IPA. There's almost no nose, it's pretty thin, the flavors are OK but it's a bit on the sweet side.

Appearance: 1 inch head, gold in color, high carbonation, clear

Smell: tangerines and tropical fruits

Taste: tangerine, toasted malt, orange, light grapefruit and pine

Mouthfeel: slightly bitter, light bodied with high carbonation

Overall: A nice, citrusy and light IPA. I like other beers from Firestone Walker better, but if I am looking for a nice IPA to sip, I will reach for this.
