This pours a clear, golden color. Looks great, to be honest, with nice foaming.

There’s a light lemony aroma, with lemon zest and lemongrass. The flavor is crisp with a light hop bitterness. Citrus notes round it out.

This is basically hop tea, no? It’s tasty and I like it. For a session IPA it’s good. It has a light bittering with enough of a finish, without tasting too soapy or thin which are problems that I’ve found in most session beers.

For me, it's a push between Easy Jack and my current favorite session, Lagunitas DayTime, both of which I drink from the bottle. I think the dankness of DayTime is a little more lingering, which could be attributable to its slightly higher ABV. Really a preference thing anyway. I really dig the Easy Jack though. It pours pretty light, but has a well-rounded, citrusy IPA taste and a pretty hefty mouthfeel for just 4.5%. I would pick this up for an outing with no regrets.

From a 355 ml bottle (dated June 26, 2014) into a tulip.

A-The brew is clear and very light-golden in color with yellow highlights. Two fingers of nearly white head drop quickly to a thick cap that hangs around for quite a while. Lacing is spotty.

S-The aroma is a blast of juicy, tropical fruit and citrus flavors. I smell pineapple, mango, orange, orange zest, light floral aromas, and a bit of cracker malts. Bitterness is light here. Enticing if a bit unbalanced.

T-The taste is similarly hopped up and juicy, but the lack of malt balance really drags things down. There is still the pineapple and orange zest hops, but there is very little behind the hops to give the beer any depth or character. It tastes a little watery.

M-The feel is pretty light with a medium, barely creamy carbonation that cannot overcome the thin feel and taset.

O-More than many other beers of this style, this one tastes like hoppy water. It is a shame too because the smell is really juicy and the hop profile could have produced wonderful results with just a bit more pale malt body and backbone. The mouthfeel suffers, as well. All that being said, if you want a juicy "session IPA," this would be a good choice.

12 oz bottle poured into an imperial pint.
Bottled on: 04/07/14

A - Carbonation streams through the golden straw yellow beer to its nicely formed white head that reduces to a Swiss-cheese like skim of foam with dots of lace left on the glass.

S - Bright tropical fruit overtones of mango and pineapple are interwoven with notes of lemony citrus underscored by easy going pale malt with a soft touch of caramel sweetness. Bright and refreshing, Easy Jack sure smells easy going!

T - Leaning towards malt forward, the refreshing grainy pale base has just a touch of sweetness, allowing the hoppiness to pull through with citrus overtones instead of the vibrant mango and pineapple the nose suggested.

M - Light in body with slightly elevated carbonation, Easy Jack goes down pretty damn easy, finishing with a slight touch of dry bitterness; nothing that hinders it's absurd drinkability, however.

O - Easy Jack is an easy going beer but, it's bright and aromatic hop bouquet seems to stem from quite a bit of dry-hopping leaving the flavor with quite a bit less of the delicious-smelling tropical fruits. Damn drinkable through and through, this beer is a welcome addition to the Session IPA world.
